Personal Movie Review: Sci-Fi Thriller Krrish3 (Bollywood: 2013)

Sci-Fi movies have been one of the key movie types in Hollywood since many decades now. We now even have Star Wars and some other series’ 7th or 8th sequels(or prequels in many cases).
However, Bollywood and Indian cinema as a whole has lagged behind. There have been movies like Mr. India(1987), Koi Mil Gaya(2003) and its sequel Krrish(2006) and a few more.
Endhiran..The Robot starring Tamil Movies’ superstar Rajnikantha did well and was a substantial step towards true sci-fi movies in Indian cinema.
Next in that series was the movie Krrish3. This movie was produced, directed and conceptualised by Rakesh Roshan, who once used to star in Hindi or Bollywood movies.
He has cast his son Hrithik Roshan in all the three movies of the series as the protagonist.
The movie was made on a big budget, taking a lot of time, with a lot of foreign help in special effects.

The Movie plot in brief
________________________

Genius scientist Rohit Mehra and his son Krishna Mehra i.e Krrish and Krrish’s wife Priya(Priyanka Chopra) are staying at Mehra House. Life is great for them, and Krrish and Priya are to be blessed with a child.
However, an evil guy called Kaal(Vivek Oberoi) assisted by his mutant force with lethal Kaya(Kangana Ranaut, who can change forms) unleashes terror and epidemic in the city where they live. Krrish and Rohit somehow manage to get an antedote for a lethal poison that Kaal has unleashed on the city, and with the help of explosive rockets, Krrish who has superman like flying and other powers lets out and saves the city.
Angry Kaal gets Priya kidnapped, and sends Kaya who changes to Priya to live with Krrish.
However, Kaya starts loving Krrish and reveals her truth in course of time.
Rohit is however captured by Kaal, who turns to be a clone of Rohit and in a way his son, and Krrish’s brother, albeit a distorted Human-Machine, who suffers from a handicap.

Using Rohit’s bone marrow, Kaal treats his handicap, and even damages Krrish who comes to fight him severely.
He also kills Kaya.
However, Rohit somehow manages to revive Krrish.
Krrish has to stop a rampaging Kaal who starts destroying everything in the city, and he does so with hige mirrors to redirect sun’s rays to melt Kaal’s body parts and get rid of him.
The city is saved, but his father Rohit dies tragically.

My opinion on the Movie
___________________________

The Movie is fast paced, and is more of a Hollywood in some ways. Hrithik is strong in his performance as bith Dad and son. However, it is Kangana Ranaut as form changing and evil-turned-good Kaya who wins’ many hearts.
Yet for me, Vivek Oberoi, scores as a big evil doer as Kaal, who does look a bit comical, but menacing as well and does the role well.
Action is great, especially the end scenes, and the scene where one of the Kaal’s mutant who has a long tongue gets hold of icecreams from even a distance!
Krrish has a tough time against Kaal, and I believe the fourth part will be see even a tougher opponent.
The film , though not as well doing as some of Aamir and Salman’s movies, did well.

    • I'm familiar with Hrithik and Kangana but had to check on Vivek Oberoi. As soon as I saw his face I went “Oh yeah! I like that guy!” It's a 2013 movie. Will look for it. Thanks for the suggestion.
