How To Deal With The Most Common Illness in the World Called “Colds”

Actually, I am proud to say that at my age , 57 year old, I hardly get colds. For the past two years I haven’t gotten colds.

Last December until January , since the weather has gone from being so hot to being cold, most of my officemates are with colds and even sore throats.

I don’t know why, but I didn’t catch any of their colds even if the office is closed and air conditioned. To that, I am so thankful for taking 1000 mg of ascorbic acid and eating lots of citrus fruits which are good sources of vitamin C.

Anyway, I would like to share again what I have read in the book above, on how to kick colds on natural means.

1. Vitamin C .

Like what I said , my taking of vitamin C or ascorbic acid is a big help in me not getting colds , because the book said that while it may not prevent colds, it can shorten the symptoms by 21%.
And that is if at the start of your colds you take large doses of vitamin C, your symptoms will be not much or for only a short period.
An alternative doctor of my father told him, tha tone can take large doses of vitamin C. But when it makes you have diarrhea, it means you have reached the limit of your stomach in handling it, so lower the dose.
What is important is you take 500 mg. of vitamin C supplement everyday because we cannot be sure that we are taking enough of it through eating fruits and vegetables.

2. Zinc

Zinc can give relief from your colds. It was discovered through recent studies that those people who takes zinc gluconate lozenges recover from the symptoms of colds faster than those who don’t.

3. Herbal preventions

Echinacea or the purple coneflower, a member of the daisy family may help you in avoiding the misery of a cold. It works by boosting your immune system to control those germs that causes colds.

Goldenseal helps in loosening your stuffed and runny nose and respiratory tract. It can be combined with Echinacea for a stronger fight against colds.

4. Eucalyptus Oil

When added to water in a vaporizer or simply by just putting it in a basin of warm water then putting a towel over your head , lean over the bowl , and breath the vapor from it, can cleanse your lungs and ease congestion.

5. Ginger

You can make a ginger tea or what we call in Tagalog as “salabat” . Just simmer slices of ginger for about 10-30 minutes and sip it while its hot so it could ease out your colds. It also helps the sore throat associated with having a colds.

6. Chamomile

Pour hot water over a number of chamomile flower heads in a bowl then do the same thing as when you try to inhale the eucalyptus oil by covering your head with a towel and leaning over the said bowl to inhale the steam.

And when you have colds , take a good rest while you do any of those above , so the colds will be gone in a day or two only.

It is a bad feeling to have a colds, because you feel weak, sleepy and lethargic and sometimes you also have a headache that accompany it. I really avoid getting colds.

So knowing these things can help you on what to do to prevent or even lessen the symptoms of the colds.

And if ever you have some known remedies, you may share it here so everyone will also try it.

    • Useful information for people suffering from colds. In my case I generally get some cold during change of temperature. Once I had cold for more than four months as there was a viral. It did not stop even after medicines and the doctor advised. It is better to eat normal food and live your life as you live rather than taking medicines as nothing works. I have also stopped taking cold drinks, water from refrigerator, ice creams etc.

I get colds generally when the temperature is varying around plus or minus 10 degrees Celsius suddenly due to changing weather pattern, I also have nasal problem a bit of sinus which add to it. Breathing polluted air, dust particles, pollen's of parthenium and some other plants also result in colds and coughs. Thanks for the share

Really, you had colds for four months! That would be hard. A colds can always bring you a headache.

My daughter said that having colds cannot be because you always drink cold water. ACtually for me, I love cold drinks. Maybe you will really get colds when you are not used to drinking cold drinks then suddely you drink one.

Sometimes too, you first have to normalize your body like when you came from the outside where it was too hot, you should stabilize your temperature first before you drink the cold water.
