MURUDESWAR A TEMPLE MOST OF YOU HAVE NOT HEARD OF

I am a regular visitor of Sabarimala. I take up this tour along with my friends every year. This will be a contingent of 54 members all of Ayyappa devotees. I have seen many temples and places during this tour as it is arranged to cover almost all temples of South India during the period of our tour which will be approximately a 7 days one.

I had an opportunity of visiting the famous Shiva temple located on the shores of Arabian Sea called Murudeswar. A journey of 54 km generally will drop you to this place from Gokarna. There are flights from Mangalore Airport also. The Train runs regularly from Mangalore station to Murudeswar. This is the place which has got the 2nd tallest Shiva statue. This is located in Karnataka State, India.

The beauty of this temple is that it is located very near to the shore. The ambiance will be quite good and pleasant.

We could reach this temple by 11 A.M. The timing for Darshan was still there. So we had beautiful pictures around the temple area. The shore was excellent and there were many boats waiting for the visitors. We engaged a boat and had a nice ride. The next to enjoy was skydiving. It was really thrilling. I never had this experience. But, my inquisitiveness to have one made me take a chance. The moment the belt was tied some people has suggested me to be more careful. As there were the frequent warning I got a doubt if the people were not experts. So dropped the idea of taking a sky Diving. But some of my friends had experienced the event. It was the really awesome experience.

Soon after visiting the temple one will have the opportunity to surf in the Arabian Ocean. One can engage a boat and make a trip in the waters. I had it along with my friends.

There will be two magnificent elephants on either side of the temple.

The entire story relating to this temple is depicted on the walls of the temple. This is the story of the Asura king Ravana and his effort to obtain the Atmalinga of Shiva.

The Mahashivaratri festival is celebrated in a grand manner in Murudeswar. The best time to visit the place is November-January though February is not bad.
