What To Do With the Worst Peanut Porridge Ever

Let me start with the fact that I love peanut porridge.  It a breakfast more of a dessert.   There’s a company that makes an instant porridge, just add water, into the micro-wave, delightful!

It is almost as good as the kind I can get if I reach downtown early in the morning.  There’s a man who makes it from scratch.  He gets the peanuts, crushes them, boils them slowly in pure coconut milk for hours and hours, and then, takes this vat and starts at the East end of Harbour Street and keeps going, until he reaches John’s lane, and stops.

The cost of that cup of peanut porridge is the same for one of those crap burgers at the poison parlous, so you know we are not talking cheap.

Of course, most times I’ll never reach before; “Finished!”  and then I can have a choice of cornmeal porridge, which I absolutely despise or whatever else is left.

The instant porridge is almost as good, as I don’t use water but coconut milk to dilute it.

Of course, someone must have told the Supermarket so they don’t have that brand anymore.  So I bought another brand.

To describe how bad it tastes, just eat some sawdust.

Now what do I do with this… so called… peanut porridge?

I thought of mixing it with rat poison, but that would be too cruel to the rats I’m trying to kill. Why turn their stomachs before death?

Instead, I hit upon the idea of using it instead of bread crumbs.

Bread crumbs are a good use of stale bread.  They are used to thicken and stretch a meal.   You use them and can get a little more than you would without them.  Often something is a bit too moist, so you use bread crumbs to sop up the liquid.  Sometimes  you have  to use them as binding.

Well, instead of grating a piece of bread and making a mess, I used the peanut porridge.

As I like my food spicy, the taste of the porridge was overruled and there is only a slight hint of peanut in the dish.  Which does add a little interest.

When I finish this pack of peanut porridge, I might…. might… buy it again as filler.  Hopefully, the brand I usually use will return to the shelf.  And I can enjoy a nice breakfast.

    • Interesting, but are you eating for the taste of the porridge or the nutritional value your body needs out of what you are eating. Old brands are difficult to do away with but it might be for a reason that the mall redraw it from the self. once the new brand gives the needed nutrient just enjoy it. You will be used to it soon.

      • It is a fairly new concept to make instant peanut porridge. The brand I used was delicious. This one... good stuffing... peanut porridge is really nice

    • Is it being processed to lessen the cholesterol content? I am not sure if it advisable for those people who are hypertensive and having heart diseases. But it is tempting to try such innovative food product. I hope it would taste better than having oatmeals for breakfast.

      • In Jamaica we've had peanut porridge for a long time; it's a very long process to create, and many people don't make it any more. The Instant porridge is (the first brand) excellent. Peanuts are nutritious, and healthy... if you're not allergic.
