Simple Steps to Keep Your Computer Safe

Another Hack attack. It’s in all the papers, on the radio, everyone is hysterical. Why am I not surprised?

Years ago, way back in the days of Windows 3 land, the kids used to hack into it as a ‘rite of passage’. It was so weak and silly it wasn’t difficult to do.   Everyone could hack into Windows.

I used Linux.  You can try to hack into Linux for the rest of your life, you won’t get in.

I recall when an American military ship was controlled by a computer which was programmed with Windows the entire crew refused to get on it until the Windows was removed.

Scotland Yard moved to Linux after the Nigerians hacked into their social security system and made themselves millionaires.

I ‘smuggled’ Linux onto a computer system at an agency I worked with, and to keep the fact hidden, we used a ‘cover’ which looked liked Internet Explorer.

It is a very simple concept. When one deals with a system like Windows which ‘Everybody’ uses, it’s pretty easy to hack. I assume you have Windows, whether 8 or 10, and that you use Chrome or Firefox as your Browser.

It isn’t hard for me to hack into your computer.

Let me make it easy. I get your recipe for this cake. I know what you use. How hard is it for me to replace the vanilla with Worcestershire sauce?

Yeah, I’ve spoiled your cake, cause I have the recipe.
That’s the mind set you need to keep when you deal online.

Firstly, if you’re even a little geeky or know a geek, use Linux.

If you can’t use Linux then use a Browser like Opera or Safari.

When you do anything with a Bank, use the Dark Web.

The point is this; a hacker will try, and if it’s taking too long, move to another victim.

    • There are always two sides to ever coin. If an honest person can hide their computer activity, a dishonest person can too! You wouldn't leave your door wide open, go to sleep, and simply believe that your home will be safe from intruders. Your computer is “your home in cyber space”. DO whatever you have to do to protect it from unlawful intrusion / invasion, without breaking the law yourself of course. Good safety tips! Thanks! :)

      • You have to think of your security and focus on it, just as a private person. One is astounded that any agency/organisation would take they security so lightly.

        • Well here's the thing. The companies and corporations hire people they believe are qualified and will apply their knowledge, skills and abilities to keep the records safe and secure. From the CIO (Chief Information Officer) all the way down to the lowliest programmers, each is expected to “do their job”. When they don't, bad things can happen. But sometimes, even though they did do their job, there was some malicious attacker out there who took aim and managed to break through anyway. Haven't we seen buildings and banks with sophisticated alleged “burglar-proof” security systems but they were still broken into and robbed? Like you say though … you got to try to put up some kind of barriers. It's business and it's personal!
