I don’t Rely on Google Much These Days

There was a time when I used to use a lot of google services and products. I remember spending a lot of time using the Google’s RSS feed program. And then after some of the time google stopped the service. And they didn’t even offered the alternative for the same. I also remember using the google desktop application. That too got stopped for some reason. In past they used to offer some nice features for using the google photos. And they stopped that service too. They made money for sure for those programs. I find that a bit hard to understand how they manage to make some good programs and then they just stopped it. This type of thing makes me wonder if investing so much time on the google is even worth it.

Google Apps

I used to be one serious user of the google apps. I had the free plan working for my domain. I knew at that time I can’t afford their 100$ plan for the small business. And then I decided not to sign up for the service. I think after some time I did manage to sign up and then got the service free for next 2 years. Then last year google apps went paid. And now anyone who wants to use it for single user, needs to pay 9$ onward. And each user additional will required to be paid 2$ extra. This leads to more of a problem. And for this one has to understand if they can find the alternatives. For me I could not find any good alternative.

Google Picasa

The picasa plan for the yearly and monthly upload was discontinued. I can’t upload the large photo files for free anymore. It was a good service. And it made it easier for me to sync the files and photos. I wonder how many people have lost their images and are now moved to the google drive. There used to be a lot of good systems with picasa but unfortunately that is now taken away for sure. I wonder how people are going to even use the same. This is one reason I think it is some of the time better to use the non google service and not depend on it for some serious usage if you have planned any.

Google Desktop

One of the coolest application was the google desktop. I think many of us learned a lot of good features because of it. It used to index our system and then let us access the desktop. And it was so good that it allowed many of us to look at our activities for data. And the best part about this sort of application was it was free. And google managed the updates for quiet some time now. It is now discontinued. And it is no longer available for download. But it was one of the good things about the application that it helped accessed some files which were not easy to view and find through Windows explorer.

So as you can see many of the good features and programs were removed by google. And this is one reason i don’t do any serious work with their applications.

    • Recently when I was trying to create some individual blog there too I saw something similar to what you mentioned. That is some particular service is going to be paid from 01 april 2017. Earlier this was being provided free to its users. I also remember about the desktop internet explorer which was useful but was stopped. I think it is not a good policy by search engines to give something see the the user is totally into it then change it into a paid service of just stop it and start something new.

Too many changes also confuse the ordinary users everyone will not be a technical expert or one who is very well versed in programs and applications. Such people will find it difficult to use the search engine effectively. If many people use different they companies do earn money. Whatever changes are effected due to change in technology should be done in such a way that users are not finding it inconvenient to use the search engines and their services. As you have stated. Thanks for the share.
