Food can transform our mood

We know that sweet treats or our favourite foods can make us happy and turn things around on a low day but we are talking science. Some foods are known to transform our mood because of certain compounds that they contain. A lot of research has shown that our diet can be affect our mood. The theory is simple the food we eat can bring about certain changes in our brain structure which can affect our mood and behaviour. There are also several factors that can affect your feelings.

We should Never skip breakfast. It helps in giving us a good start physically and mentally.
Keep ourself well hydrated at all times. Dehydration may often lead to moods swings.
And our brain needs healthy fats to function properly. So, do not ignore all fats. Food like oily fish, and poultry, nuts also,and eggs, ans avocado and seeds contain good fats.
Make sure you get enough protein from lean meat, and lentils or soya. Some Proteins contain amino acids that help in producing certain chemicals which our brain need to process feelings.
Keep our gut healthy. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables that are full of fibre along with probiotics like yogurt. Your brain is constantly communicating with our gut that sends signals about various feelings.We should
Keep a check on your nutrient count as a deficiency of certain vitamins like Vitamin D and minerals like iron can cause anxiety,and irritability and moodiness. A common symptom of all vitamin deficiencies is feeling low regularly.
Avoid too much caffeine as it may be messing with our mood. It may provide a short term spike but in the long run it increases dependency and withdrawal can leave us with mood swings.
Developing healthy eating habits is not as confusing or as restrictive as many people imagine. The essential steps are to eat mostly foods derived from plant vegetables, and fruits, whole grains and legumes examples(beans, peas, lentils)and limit highly processed foods.

In my view One of the best healthy eating habits we can put in place is to chuck out our toxic packaged and processed foods.
Instead, stock pantry and shelves with beautiful fresh ingredients so they are at arm’s reach when you are ready to eat.
