The Azores is an archeapelago consisting in 9 islands. They divided these islands into three diferent groups: Oriental, Ocidental and Central. These are the groups of islands closest together.
It doesn’t matter which island you go to, there are at least 5 things you must do that can be done in almost all of the islands. This is possible to do in the bigger and most populated islands São Miguel and Terceira.
1) Street Bullfights
What is a street bullfight? It is a bullfight that is done on a certain street in various towns from May to September. They have a rope tied to the bulls neck and the bull goes running around the street, giving the people the opportunity to try and play with the bull. Each street is marked with two white lines where it begins and where it ends. Holding the rope is a group of at least 5 men dressed up specifically so you know who they are. Their job in to make sure the bull does not pass those white lines and remove the bull if someone is in danger. If your not on the street you can go to someones house (where they cover walls with wood) to see the bullfight. It is dangerous for those in the road but it is extremely popular in Terceira Island.
2) Local cuisine
This is a must. You need to try the local cuisine. Portuguese food is a bit heavy and full of spices but if you ask for a regional plate you can taste all of our typical meats. Our most famous foods are Alcatra and Sopa de Carne. Their are so much diferent foods to try.
3) Nature and natural pools
If you go to São Miguel then you can have a chance to swim in one of our natural pools that actually has a waterfall. This water is generally warm. Besides this there is so many beautiful natural sites. You can go whale and dolphin watching, climb our biggest moutain and much more.
There are much more things you can do.
