Why sports are as important as classroom lessons

In the words of Mary Lou Retton- “A trophy carries dust. Memories last forever.

When adrenaline soars high, even the faintest of hearts gather up the courage to perform; such is the aura of sports and co-curricular activities. Sportsmanship instils the need for participation and taking up challenges in children. The society we live in is highly competitive, something which has made our lives no less than a competitive sport itself.

The best assets that come with the spirit of sportsmanship are those of discipline and perseverance. A good sportsperson knows that winning and losing are just two faces of the same coin. A classroom teaches us how to work hard and gain information, but seldom falls behind in teaching us how to deal with failures and losses. Sports make children learn the ideology of not quitting or giving up in difficult times.

Looking on a brighter and fun side of being involved in sports, one can have a pretty good time on the field. Sports build up confidence and give children the chance to improve their competency. When accomplishments come in way, they themselves realise their personal progress. Not to mention the heaps of fun and good times at the field. You’ll always remember that basketball session through the torrential rains or mid-night practice sessions! Sports give children some invaluable memories that they will be cherished forever.

Classroom lessons can make your back sore! Once children let in some fresh air, they automatically become more energetic and happy. Sports are greatly satisfying, for every hit or goal will fetch insurmountable bliss for your child. You never know which child might come out as a gifted athlete!

Teamwork and sharing credit along with fellow mates is something golden taught by sports. In the classroom we are the sole harbinger of our successes and failure, but on the field a win is made up of sweat and tears of many colours.

The sphere of sports is not just dominated by males; there are women athletes who have accomplished tasks that half of the boys can only dream of! Particularly for girls, sports give them the courage to stand up for themselves, something which the closed walls of a classroom might not teach. Girls have a plethora of good things to be learned from the domain of sports!

Practice, compliance of rules and gruelling regularity are the basic principles of good sports, surprisingly these are also the ingredients of a successful life!

Out of sports emerges a completely different and retouched personality which knows how to deal with the real ups and downs. Everything cannot be learnt in the classroom, for that very reason one must step out and face the music. Athletes learn one of the most essential of sports lessons, how to handle “success with grace” and “failure with dignity“.

“When you’ve got something to prove, there’s nothing greater than a challenge.””“ Terry Bradshaw

Thus, the importance of sports against classroom lessons cannot be overlooked!
