Today the Philippines is celebrating the National Heroes Day. The day is to honor the war veterans and the Filipinos who fought for the freedom of the country during the World War 2 and the war before that year.
Only few war veterans are living today. If there are some, mostly are too old now to stand and wave the national flag of the country. Even so, it will never be forgotten what they have done for the liberty of the Philippines.
Today, there are modern heroes which the Filipinos should also hail because of their devotion and effort not by war but bring the Filipinos to education and orderliness. These countrymen who are silently and unknowingly doing for the good of mankind which I considered them a hero.
Who are these heroes?
1. The Teachers. They are here even before the war veterans were lived. They continue to nurture and bring the innocence and even ignorant to an educated and respectful person. They say, no presidents, vice presidents, senators, congressmen and even mayors did not go to their teaching. They have been always in the classroom, standing with loud or soft voice, diligently teaching everyone. They our second mothers.
2. The Overseas Filipino Workers. The modern day heroes of the country who helped not just the economy of the Philippines but also the future of their families and relatives. Their sacrifice may be unbearable to others, the care for the children of others and left their own children to somebody. Not of them are lucky because many of OFW are there being maltreated by their employers.
3. Policemen And Soldiers. They are already heroes of the past but not all of them are named in their tomb. The heroes I considered are the low ranking soldiers and policemen who are in the front liner of the war. They do the fighting against the rebels, criminals and drug lords.
4. Little Heroes. Who are these little heroes? Those who save lives in little way like shouting to a man that is supposed to be bump by a car; or returning the picked money to the owners.
Indeed, these are the heroes of today.

Indeed there are heroes apart from war heroes who help make a country strong.
I think I have heard of this day. Is it also called the Day of Valor?
You have missed to mention the parents, the mothers who have raised these men and women. Because of them, the heroes of today are made. The values they have learned from their parents. The attitudes that they possess in treating their fellow beings. Their traits of being polite, courteous and religious are all influenced by their parents.
I may consider my father as the hero in our family. Because of him, we were all educated. We had our education and professional which we're proud of having them. My father is the best example we have in our family. No wonder why that we consider him the hero of our own family.
My mother is another heroine. She is working side by side with my father in rearing up and making us a law-abiding citizen of our community. She has taught us to be reverent and prayerful in all our undertaking. She has led us to be obedient, to be responsible for our own good. She has served as our model of righteousness.
They are our heroes. If they are living today, we would be glad to give them the best honor which the sons and daughter could give to their parents.
