How Truth Has Set Me Free

The Bible says that the truth shall set us free. This Biblical assertation has been proved by myself when I joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sometimes in 1980. I was the first to be converted to the said Church, followed by my wife and my 6 children who I was authorized to baptize them.

With such membership in that Church, I held various callings such as ward clerk, Elder’s Quorum president, Sunday School teacher, a teacher in Seminary and Institute class, and the first counselor in the Bishopric in the ward level. In the stake level, I held the calling of the clerk, executive secretary, auditor, and the member of the high council.

For 36 years of my faithful membership in the Church, I was an instrument of missionary work in proclaiming the Gospel to those who have spiritual lost, in teaching the adult members in “perfecting” themselves, and in redeeming the dead through proxy baptism in the temple of God.

Out of those activities I have had in the Church, what matters most is my family. I couldn’t imagine reevaluating how I brought my own family to the true Church of God as we usually testify upon ourselves, before the non-believers and even every first Sunday of the month in our Sunday meeting.

My joy, my happiness is beyond measure when my wife, my children and I went to the temple in Manila, Philippines sometime in 1986 to witness the dedication of the said temple by the late President of the Church, Gordon B. Hinckley. And in the following day, we performed the ordinances in the temple. My wife and I were sealed for time and eternity. Then our children were also sealed to us in solemn rites.

Another unforgettable spiritual experience I had in the temple when I was baptized on behalf of my dead father and my wife on behalf of my late mother. My parents were baptized by proxy. I couldn’t control my tears from falling. Those were the tears of joy, the tears of gratefulness of the truth I have learned from the restored Church of Jesus Christ.

We were able to do some temple ordinances later in Cebu, Philippines. We had another temple built there. It is worried-free and spiritually uplifting to know the truth and to do what the Lord has commanded to do.

    • It's sometimes hard to accept ouyr faults or shortcomings. But if we center our thoughts towards what should matter most with our decisions, then it will definitely taske off all thge weight from our chest.

    • That is right and you are correct. We find it difficult to admit our doubts and even our shortcomings because of our nature as a person full of pride. I agree with you that if we focus our thoughts on something that is good, to something wonderful, it gives the happiness that we could ever describe it. Do you agree with that? It take us no hard time if we humble ourselves and admit our own mistakes.

    • Yes, truth has power to set free from all troubles but to follow the path of truth is very difficult in practical field. Truth and honesty bring its reward on earth sooner or later bet lie has no reward on earth and in heaven.

      John 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

      John 18:37-38

Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in him.

The merits of truth sre written below as I think...
Because you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember what you said to whom. You won’t accidentally contradict yourself.

      2. You earn the reputation as an honest person. If you are a manager, your staff members tell each other, “Our boss might be more honest about your work than you sometimes want to hear, but it’s better to know the truth.”

      3. People follow your example and are more truthful to you.

      4. Your stress level drops. You sleep better, eat better and look better.

      5. You can look at yourself in the mirror. Lying causes self-criticism and depression. Honesty causes self-confidence and pride.

      6. You are more persuasive. To be persuasive, you need to be believable. To be believable, you must be truthful.

      7. Best of all, you are trustworthy. When people can trust you, you earn their support. You need peoples’ support to reach your goals.
