Many of us want to be good writers. But we are often confused and don’t know where to start and how to start. We keep on postponing the program for one reason or the other.
Sometimes the plan is postponed for want of a table and comfortable chair. Sometimes it is because of non-availability of proper lighting system and at others it is because we are not feeling well.
In my opinion the first thing is to have a proper place for this purpose where all the important things are within our reach.
I recommend that we must also have something to eat and drink within our reach so that we may fully concentrate on our writing. Another important point is to have good vocabulary of the language.
The second is to know how to express ourselves using correct words and sentences. For instance if we want to write in English, we must have a good vocabulary of the language and know how to form good sentences.
Another thing that is often ignored by many is that in order to be a good writer we must also be a good reader. So we must form a habit to read something daily. Now someone may ask what to read.
I think that we should read English newspaper daily. If it may not be possible we should at least go through the Editorial.
One of my teachers told me once that different editors write these editorials. So when we go through them on Sunday we have a different style of writing. On Monday we have a man with another style. Moreover, we should have keen observation which will prove very helpful and will enable us to write on various topics.
Some people start writing and are not satisfied with their progress. Actually they start comparing their writings with the articles of experienced writers. This tendency is not good.
Actually we should compare our writings with our own earlier writings. This practice will tell us whether we have improved to some extent or not.
If there is some improvement, it should be a source of encouragement for us. This activity will boost up our confidence level and will force us to work harder. So, keeping a record of the articles would be a better idea in this regard.
Some of our friends complain that they cannot write regularly. My advice for them is that they must write regularly on daily basis on any topic they like.
Consistency is the key to success when it comes to improving some language. It is an art and will require a lot of hard work and patience. Obviously it will require a lot of time coupled with patience. It is a slow process.
We should keep a proper record of our articles with the date when it was written.
We must keep it in our minds that this process of learning may be a bit slow, but in the days to come it will become fast.
What I want to make clear to you is that we have to work slowly and steadily.
We don’t need to jump to our target like the rabbit. So, dear friends don’t hesitate. Just start writing now.
