They were sitting in a restaurant in Los Angeles. The father’s phone rang and he held it from his face and said, “Hello? Can’t hear you… on cruise…” and locked off. He lowered his eyes as other people looked at him, and his wife took his hand.
The couple was well known to the owner of the restaurant who explained;
“The father has a son from his first marriage. His wife died when the son was very young, and the father devoted himself to the boy. The boy was extremely willful and wanted everything his way, and as the father had money he could satisfy the selfishness. The father spent his days working and trying, the son did virtually nothing but expected everything.”
“The father had no life until he met his second wife. It was a lucky meet. The father and son were on a cruise to Hawaii, and while the son, (who was in his twenties at the time) busied himself annoying other people, the Father met a woman. They had enough private time to fall in love. The son didn’t know about it, and when the ship docked, the son went off to do whatever, and the father was too busy with the lady to squander a single thought to what the son was doing.”
“When the ship returned to port, the Father and Son went back to where they lived, but the Father kept in touch with the lady and made opportunities to see her. The Son wasn’t aware of it.”
“The Father decided to marry the lady, and the son was the ‘last to know’, simply because he was busy with his own life, assuming his father was going to work and on business meetings.”
“When the Father and the Lady married, the son tried to disrupt the wedding but failed, and the newly weds went off on a honeymoon. When they came back the son tried to interfere but failed. This is because the father realised that for all the years between his first wife’s death and marriage to his second, his son had done nothing except spend his money and embarrass him.”
“The son, now Thirty Years Old had no job and wanted none. All he cared about was spending his father’s money. So the father sold the house, and he and his wife moved to Los Angeles, but said they were going on a cruise to Hawaii.”
The fact was that the Father felt he deserved a life. He deserved to be happy and feel loved. He deserved to enjoy the money he worked for. It was clear to everyone hearing the story, (and much more details than I’ve put into this report) that the Son was not a particularly good person and the father did have right to a life.

That is what will happen to a lazy person. Had he tried to study well and that would let him find a nice job, he wouldn't be depending much on his father.
His father has also his lapse in his son's growing up irresponsible. He just let him squander his money and didn't insist that he should find a job nor finish a course so he can have a good job.
Sometimes, it's the parents' fault why their child go wayward.
