The Absolutely Worst Run Business

Of all the businesses I have ever troubleshoot, the most ridiculous is the one I’ll call the Cray Z. House.

This endeavour was begun as a kind of old age home for members of a particular congregation but morphed into a form of ‘dormitory’ allegedly for students but housing a pot pourri of females.

It is supposed to be managed by a woman I’ll call Hippo. She is so enormously fat she can’t walk. She is paid a salary, given free accommodation, as well as various perqs. She does absolutely nothing at all whatsoever and has done this for a decade.

There is a ‘maid’ whom I’ll call Pigthing. This one will clean twice a year. She will make a few monthly daubs at the bathrooms and kitchens. She spends her days sitting under a tree talking to the handy men next door. Her main activity is stealing from those who rent rooms.

She is also paid a weekly salary, plus perqs.

So here is a place which spends money on two perfectly useless people, and collects rent from the inhabitants.

There are approximately thirty women paying rent. Most rooms are double or triple occupancy. These rooms; A 1,2,3 and B 1 – 11 are to be rented.

The Hippo, to add more coin to her coffer, rents rooms in the ‘Main House’ which was to have been a home for the leader of the Congregation, but the Hippo moved in and took control.

The ‘Board’ which thinks it ran the place, was totally unaware that one of the rooms was occupied by ‘teachers’ who ran a school on a veranda for over a decade. These ‘teachers’ used the ‘A’ side so the Hippo did not rent the rooms there, allowing them to pay for one room, have use of three in return for a few ‘kick backs’.

It was only accidentally that a member of the Board learned of the commercial usage of the premises, and then, in customary sweeping under the rug, moved the teachers and the school to a larger apartment on the premises.

To the current Board it ‘seems‘ Cray Z. House is ‘profitable‘. The ‘Board’ which ‘manages‘ it does not step into oversee.

I put certain words in italics because this is the exact kind of ‘business’ which causes me the most mirth.

It seems that people, such as those on the Board, who have no business sense, who are totally hands off, do not recognise that they have a pathetic ‘model’ because they gain sufficient remuneration to keep the lights on.

Cray Z House can not be adequately discussed in one article as everything, from the electricity to the water bill to the condition of the House must be examined so as to give you the truest picture of how not to run a business.
