Reading No. 2 : Vitamins & Nutrients Than Can Help Prevent Alzheimer’s

My daughter, hubby and I, live with our in-laws since our daughter started her high school studies in another province, for a scholarship in Philippine Science High School.

They pleaded for us to transfer to their house when both retired and the house seemed too big for the two and my gay brother-in-law.
Over the years, I saw my parents-in-law grew older. My father-in-law got bedridden when he was struck with prostate cancer, but recovered from it after a year.
My mother-in-law is healthier than him, maybe because she is slim and eats less than my father-in-law who is obese and eats a lot, despite restricting him to eat a lot because he has high blood and even had a heart bypass.
However, mother-in-law’s mind has deteriorated these past two years. My daughter and her boyfriend, now doctors, had analyzed her as having mild dementia already which could lead to Alzheimer’s when it gets worse when they came home for a vacation last April.
She was prescribed a medicine that can at least help retard her dementia, but when she tried the first tablet, she experienced nausea and dizziness. Since then, she doesn’t want any medication thus, her mind keeps deteriorating already.
In addition to her asking you the same question 6 times a day, she also became irritable. She would shout when she’s angry.
This made me so afraid of having it also when I grow older so I keep reading about how to preventAlzheimer’s. Although in my side of the family, my father now 84 and my mother, 78 still have sharp minds.
And these are some of what I have read so we can prevent it from happening to any of us.
A moss from China “huperzia serrata” when brewed and taken as tea is said to be the key that may beat Alzheimer’s disease. Scientists have found a compound in this moss and turned it into a drug called huperzine A.
It is said that it fights the enzyme in our body that destroys acetylcholine, the chemical in our body for normal memory and thinking.
The said moss “huperzia serrata” can be found in health stores to make the huperzine A. It is combined with another ingredient called ginkgo, which is another herb good for the blood flow in our body. Having a better blood flow, means better memory and clear thinking.
Though it is also said in the book, that if since from childhood you are a lover of fruits and vegetables, you are far from getting Alzheimer’s disease.
Studies show also that always eating tomatoes, dark green and yellow vegetables which have antioxidant vitamins can help our brain be in its best form.
Another one that can help in the prevention of having Alzheimer’s is vitamin E supplement as mentioned in the book too.
I was prescribed to take 400 IU of vitamin E when I was operated for my total abdominal hysterectomy when I was 38 years old. Since my reproductive organs were gone, I am already on forced menopause. And vitamin E can help me have a good skin and a sharp mind.
In this book,it said that people with moderate Alzheimer’s were studied and given 2000 IU(international units) of Vitamin E. It was found out that those taking this dose of vitamin E, was able to take care of themselves for an average of 7 months longer than those who weren’t given vitamin E.
That being said, I will double my intake of the Vitamin E supplement, the allowable dosage for us. Megadoses can result to bleeding problems as the book said.
Now, having known these things, I know more now on how I can prevent myself and even my love ones from getting Alzheimer’s disease while we still don’t have it.

    • I never want to have alzeimers or cancer for that matter. Luckely i love my veggies and friuts! So hopefully i will stay healthy and strong with a clear mind. But ill start taking multivitamins again. Why not ive got nothing to loose and everything to gain. And maby ill be oky! I can think that alzeimers or any other sickness can be very frustrating. Im so thankfull that im so blessed to be healthy ad clear minded.and luckely we dont have ever had any one in our family that has or had alzeimers. Not in my mothers site nor in my dads! I just wanna say al my sinsere good wishes to those who have alzeimers and their familys who has to deal with that! God will keep you strong and save!

      • That is good, because it means you are far from getting alzheimers.

Indeed, nowadays it seems that people are already so aware of what are the benefits of eating healthily , especially fish, veggies and fruits.

At least, those foods in addition to taking vitamin supplements such as E and also fish oil, which I also take, we can be assured of having a healthy mind until our death.

    • It is one of the dreaded diseases when people grow old; I wish there could be a good medicine to offset it. Though I am still not that so old, ha ha ha! I list all my passwords in a notebook, along with important bank numbers.

Regarding Vitamin E, your post reminded that I have to take it again. I had hysterectomy also due to myoma. But my OB-Gyne prescribed hormone replacement therapy which is safe to use. I remember I have to take it again.

Nobody likes to have dementia when they aged. It is like you are a living dead. You are alive yet like a dead person already, because you don't know anymore any of the people around you. And also you are already a bit out of your mind. I would rather be dead than be like that and be a burden to my family.

So you also had your hysterectomy. I had mine too at 38 years old. I was also given a hormone therapy and took it for more than 6 years. However, i withdrew from it when my hubby told me too, because he got afraid of what he read that you are at risk of heart attack or coronary disease when you are at it.

Though, when I was at HRT I feel and look young. My skin is young looking no wrinkles at all and is smooth and supple.

But once I withdrew crow lines started showing up. I also began having hot flushes. Until now, I still would have hot flushes when the weather is so hot. I hate hot flushes. It wakes me up at night.

    • One just need to eat healthy diet then they can probably reduce the risk of getting Alzheimer.

    • Vitamins are very good in combating Alzheimer disease and also there is one type of diet that I found in Internet that can effectively reduce the risk of getting Alzheimer and other chronic disease which are ketogenic diet that consist of food high in healthy fats like Omega3.
