Money is Not the Root of All Evil

I strongly oppose the saying that money is the root of all evil. On the surface it may not seem to be good advice but being financially independent is the way to go.Some religions encourage poverty as that they say takes one nearer to God. While going overboard and collecting wealth may not be the right approach but having enough to live a comfortable life is the way to go.  And this advice is more for seniors. I will tell you why.

  1. If you have enough money to look after yourself you do not have to depend on your children as they have their own needs to cater for.
  2. You can be independent of your children and not be at their mercy doing their chores which is what is happening with so many seniors today. They have to oblige their children most unwillingly as their daily bread comes from them. Some children are quite ruthless and make their parents do things which their age and health may not permit.
  3. You do not have to think twice to spend on yourself when an emergency is there. Not having money around can only lead to despair. All your needs could be met without having to think twice.
  4. Whether you believe it or not, society does respect those who are financially independent.
  5. Helping those who are in dire need of money is possible if you have enough to share with others. Helping others does add to one’s dignity.
  6. Money gives one security. It is like a companion that will be there in time of need, whatever be the need.

A senior needs to plan well in advance to be in this situation.  There are so many ways money can be saved. It is not necessary that one should empty one’s coffers for the betterment of their children. Once  the children are well educated and are able to stand on their own feet they should be left to fend for themselves.

    • Saving some cash is a better idea and one must follow it to safeguard one's future. We must save something from time to time. It does not mean that we should be frugal but trying to save whenever it is possible is a better idea in this regard.

    • Learning to handle your finances at an early age is always a good thing. I wish someone would have told me when I was young. Maybe I wouldn't be so bad off now. Learning to budget is another good thing to learn. Learn to say no to things you really don't need. Learning to say no to my kids is a hard thing for me.

    • That's a goo point. Money should not work to control people. It should be the other way around. Unfortunately, it happens in real life that people are being totally controlled by their money. There are so many factors that broke the relationship and greediness formed if continue to be controlled by money.
Evil comes out if being controlled by money. It wasn't the source of evil. The people created the evil thing and misused the money to do bad things in this world.
