The life is going on normally but sometimes I feel I am missing something. A disturbing feeling that I could have done something better or I am not doing what’s expected of me gives me few anxious moments. That is not a common feeling but it happens to all of us while trying to do something extra from the set pattern of our routine life and suddenly lose our concentration and peace of mind in the process.

A disturbing feeling that I could have done something better or I am not doing what’s expected of me gives me few anxious moments. That is not a common feeling but it happens to all of us while trying to do something extra from the set pattern of our routine life and suddenly lose our concentration and peace of mind in the process.
You would be surprised to note that in a small country in our neighborhood Bhutan they have a system in place which measures its citizens’ happiness. However, I feel that in search of bigger happiness and overlooking our smaller ones we are probably doing the same what a deer does running after water in desert which is not there but he keeps running in hope to find it.
The reason I always say this is simply that I don’t believe in doing something extra ordinary just to impress others and lose my smaller happiness that I enjoy in the process. Have you ever thought in terms of ‘just what is the need or why should anyone try to come out of their routine work schedule or his comfort zone or try to do something extra?
I think it’s absolutely unnecessary but we all feel that way and while trying to do something extra ordinary we overlook our natural happiness that we derive out of doing our routine jobs. But do we really need to do something going out of the way or our routine job?
If you wish to get an apt answer to your query read “Closure: The Rush to End Grief and What It Costs Us” a book written by Dr. Nancy Berns from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She has described it in detail that what we try to find doing something extra ordinary is nothing but an illusion.
No one in his right mind will deny the importance of doing something extra for a better future but that should not be done at the cost of your present work. But can I afford to leave my present job even if I am not happy? The answer is no!
Can you afford to leave your present job however small for a better job that you may or may not get? We should aim at bigger targets but never give up what you have in your hands, your happiness.
