When my dad had decided to quit smoking for his
high blood pressure illness, I gave him words of
encouragement and praised him for making the
right decision.
When you friend or loved one had decided to quit
for good, give him your full support in order to
help him to successfully accomplish his task.
Do not throw a wet blanket over his head.
Otherwise, he will give up easily when he encounter
numerous of failures.
Do not temp him to light up a cigarette in order to
stop his grumpy mood.
He will become addicted to nicotine again, all his
effort would have gone down into the drain with just
one smoke.
Discourage him from reaching out his pocket for a
puff.
One puff would take him back to square one.
That is what dad said to me when he gave up
smoking after his first day.
Remember, quitting smoking is a BIG decision and
a difficult task for a veteran smoker like my dad.
He had started smoking from his bad friends
encouragement at age 19, ( he is now in his 70s).
It is indeed a daunting task, a mission impossible
task that a veteran smoker to quit smoking
overnight.
He was totally addicted to the nicotine, unable
to get his mind of tobacco for the whole day,
especially when he feels sleepy and after each meal.
Hence, in order to quit smoking, he had to have a
firm determination, the will to quit even though
his body is weak.
Here are some tips that my dad told me how he
quit smoking for good.
1. Words of encouragement.
Congratulate him for making the right decision.
Give him a pat on his back, tell him that he “can
do it”, don’t ever give up over small failure.
Your role is important to him because he needed
words of assurance to give him confidence and
determination to succeed.
2. Stay by his side, always.
Brave yourself for dark days ahead.
The smoker will be in an extremely grumpy mood,
feeling grouchy like Sesame Street Oscar, the most
irritating person on Earth, nasty and insulting
words hurled at you.
In other words, you wished that he had never
existed in the first place.
You will be surprised for all his negative behavior
beginning to surface because he is in a “painful”
period right now.
Never leave him alone or give up on him.
By staying by his side, you are helping him not to
give up.
Kicking a bad habit isn’t easy.
3. Get rid of everything!
Remove or hide away everything that is related
to smoking.
Get rid of ashtrays, cigarettes or his pipe.
Change his foul odor smoky clothes or wash with
disinfectant.
Set a firm home rule that NO SMOKING in and
outside the house.
Clean up the places where he used to smoke at
home.
Use disinfectant to kill the bacteria.
Give your house a new coat of paint.
I was surprised that a new paint could seal up the
cigarette smell instantly.
4. Sweet candies
I remembered dad used to pop in mint sweets into
his mouth whenever he had the urge to smoke
after meal or when he felt sleepy.
Candies with mint, wintergreen , peppermint or
herbal helped him to feel freshen up, relieved his
craving for a puff or felt alert.
5. Kill his boredom
Whenever he felt bored of waiting, feeling sleepy
during the day or a sudden urge to reach for a puff
after every meal, I gave him some suggestions to
stop him immediately.
Watch a movie
Go for a walk at the park or our garden.
Get a new hobby to pass time.
It took him several months to quit smoking and I
am glad that he did for his health.
It wasn’t easy at all, the most difficult task he had
done in his lifetime.
Look at the bright side, he had saved his own life.

Definitely be a support to the person. I would say though instead of sweet candies, I used carrots, celery to munch on. Yeah, I quit on my own over 3 years. Once he smoker knows when they really "want" a cigarette..they'll find that it was just a habit and you can replace it with healthier things.
If everyone in his workplace smokes, it is impossible for him to quit smoking.
He has to change his job in this case.
I do agree on your statement that it is difficult to quit smoking. If a person who has the will to do it, then a good result will happen. My friend decided to quit smoking by gradually decreasing the number of cigarette sticks in a weekly basis. At long last, he was able to habit of smoking. It is a great achievement for him.

Others find it hard to quit smoking, but for the sake of life and and love, they have to fight for their unwillingness. My sea man brother has able to quit smoking after having been diagnosed sick of Hepatitis B. He was forced to quit and job no more. He is well now and have a business of his own. What he did to forget the desire of smoking was to chew gum and eat some candies then gradually he forgot his desire to smoke.

Smoking I itself is a hard task. You cannot do it yourself, someone has to walk with you always. Talking about it alone won't make someone to quit smoking, encouragement alone won't stop him. it all starts with th3 individual. If you want to quit smoking it has to come from within you have to be willing to change and make a difference that way if someone came and spoke to you about quitting, then they encourage you daily and even offer to give you something that would substitute the smoking that way you will manage to quit the smoking. I remember I had a friend who smiled so much after every hour he has to smoke. So I challenged him and told him that he should try eating a sausage each time he feels like smoking and he was upto it. So I used to see him do that and for like a month he could smoke like only three cigarettes. I kept urging him on and so long is we were in the office he kept off the cigarettes. The only bad thing was that I could not keep tabs on him while he was away from the office so stopping wasent easy. That's why I said it all begins with and individual and the will to stop smoking.
Smoking is a bad habit because it destroys the life of life organs but I am also a dead smoker I am smoking since tenth class. I smoke daily three to four packets in a day. Now I come to know that it is a very bad habit because human blood and lips become the slave of smoking as hand to the slave of mouth.
But is a fact that whether you’re a teen smoker or a lifetime pack-a-day smoker, quitting can be tough. But the more you learn about your options and prepare for quitting, the easier the process will be. With the right game plan tailored to your needs, you can break the addiction, manage your cravings, and join the millions of people who have kicked the habit for good.
While some smokers successfully quit by going cold turkey, most people do better with a plan to keep themselves on track. A good plan addresses both the short-term challenge of quitting smoking and the long-term challenge of preventing relapse. It should also be tailored to your specific needs and smoking habits.
These are two best tips to quit smoking slowly...
2. Stay Busy
Keeping busy is a great way to stay smoke free on your quit day. Being busy will help you keep your mind off smoking and distract you from cravings. Think about trying some of these activities:
Get out of the house for a walk.
Chew gum or hard candy.
Keep your hands busy with a pen or toothpick, or play a game.
Drink lots of water.
Relax with deep breathing.
Go to a movie.
Spend time with non-smoking friends and family.
Go to dinner at your favorite smoke free restaurant.
Family and friends are always there if a smoker wants to quit. The best thing for the smoker is to have a strong will. Even if the people close to him or her wanted them to stop, if the smoker cannot stop it; then the effort is useless.
