DON’T FORCE EMPLOYEES TO BUY IF THEY DON’T LIKE TO , IT’S AGAINST THE LABOR LAW

Actually this happened a year ago already, but still it is vivid in my mind.

That day,  the HRD officer told me that the Finance Head overheard telling her staff to require the employees to buy one ticket each of our E-Bingo bingo bonanza.

And she annoyingly told her that it’s prohibited by law to require employees to buy anything that the company is trying to sell.

To which I tell her yes, that is true.

So I told her also that it was wrong for the E-Bingo head too that she was forcing one of the Operations and Maintenance Dept. staff to buy a 100 peso ( $2.35) ticket good for 10 cards bingo cards, as I heard her doing so .  The staff was refusing to buy but she’s persistent, so I told her to stop it and explained why to her.

I think you would agree that it is DOLE’s,   (Dept. of Labor & Employment’s ) mandate that no employee shall be forced to buy a product of the company he is working with if he doesn’t like.

If you are going to make a promo,  do not target the employees but target the market outside of the company instead.  The company can be complained to DOLE by the employees, if they do that.

Now if the employees voluntarily buy tickets for that,  then it’s an added bonus.

Any promo should not be forced for the employees to buy.  It should be if ever at their own volition.

If you would do this to your employees you will be penalized for doing so.

And since our company follows the rules of the Department of Labor, our general manager, just asked who are those who wants to play and buy the tickets.

Is this also being prohibited by the Department of Labor in your country?

Actually, I also bought some and played.  But I didn’t win though, but we all enjoyed playing it.

    • It does not give good image to that seller and the office where it was done. There should be some ebticla rules and good conduct to follow and abide, That case is not good. In the faculty office, I do not like our co teachers entertaining sales people and presenting their promos and goods or products. The time they usually get in is lunch time and teachers are all tired and hungry and here comes sales people allowed to blah, blah in the office.

There are offices and schools and anywhere doing this act.Let us just go with the music for if we show rebellious actions, we become culprits to them, I better keep my mouth shut and leave the place.

      • Yes, it was in the news before that teachers would sell in their classrooms and the buyers are the children,

But good thing that I think this was already prohibited because some teachers use it as a way of making some buy because they want to please the teacher to get higher grades or in Tagalog make "sipsip" or trying to gain the favor of the teacher.

So, in your school too. Well, you cannot blame the teachers because they just want to make extra money. As long as they are doing the selling during rest hours or breaks then, it's okay.
