Zebra Plant Growing Instructions

Zebra plant is a perfect houseplant for the modern look, but needs the right growing conditions to thrive. It’s beauty comes at a bit of price because it’s not as easy as many other plants.

Grow zebra plant in a bright spot; the more light, the better. In fact, if it gets enough light, zebra plant will produce spikes of showy yellow flowers. However, too much direct sun can cause zebra plant’s leaves to sunburn; in sunny windows, it’s helpful to protect this houseplant with a sheer curtain.

Zebra plant wants above-average humidity to thrive, so keep it happiest by growing your zebra plant in a humid spot or mixing it in with other houseplants (because they release moisture into the air as they breathe). A small humidifier near the plant can also do the trick.

Water zebra plant when the soil surface begins to dry. If you let it dry out too much, zebra plant will throw a temper tantrum and drop its lower leaves. (It can also drop leaves if it consistently gets too much water.)

If you wish to fertilize zebra plant, do so in spring and summer using a fertilizer designed for houseplants (you should find one available at your local garden center). Follow the directions on the packaging for tips on how much fertilizer to use and how often to apply it.

Enjoy zebra plant for its looks, but not its taste. This plant is not recommended for human or animal consumption.
