We went to Rome Christmas last year with a couple of my husband’s friends in tow. And of course, as part of the experience, we bought a number of goodies back home so we can enjoy even after our vacation. We love eating Italian food (who doesn’t?!) and so we wanted to make sure we can still hold on to our Italian food cravings even after a few weeks or months after the trip!
Sweets are definitely one of the common things to giveaway after a trip. We wanted to buy chocolates to take home with us but we can’t buy a lot since our luggage space is limited. So we looked for items that looked interesting but packed in small quantities. And this brand of lemon-filled biscuits is one of them.
We bought several items and one of the food items we brought was Corsini’s Dolcetti Lemon. I don’t really have an idea what to expect but the drawing from the box seemed like it was a lemon cookie. I love eating tangy treats from time to time so I thought, why not? And because the box was quite small, we bought a couple of it. The expiration date is also far off so there’s no need to rush off eating everything in one go!
I opened the box and was so pleased to see individually wrapped biscuits. To be honest, I don’t see this packaging quite often (only in Japanese treats) but I think it really helps to keep the food fresh. It prohibits the rest of the batch going stale once the box has been opened. Cookies with this packaging make it a perfect giveaway as a gift from a trip so it is a plus for me! I was glad I bought the same brand of biscuits to give to my son’s nanny.
I took a cookie and unwrapped my first lemon dolcetti. I loved my first bite and noticed there was a gooey lemon center. The quantity of the lemon was just alright to give me a mouthful of yummy lemon goodness! The gooey center wasn’t too sweet or tart – just the right balance of sweet and sour. The biscuit was very crisp and not too sweet either. To cut the story short, the cookie was very easy to eat and found myself unwrapping for a second dolcetti! How I wish I had the patience to make myself a cup of tea to enjoy this treat with!
Overall, I am really happy with the purchase and would love to buy again. It’s been a while since we finished this box of lemon cookies but still love to think about the eating experience. I don’t think I have seen it anywhere here (even in local Italian shops in the city center). I have another box of dolcetti from the same brand but in chocolate flavor! I look forward to trying it out and of course, writing a review about it!
