Your expertise makes you more burnable

I think everyone will agree with me that people who put extra efforts in their jobs trusted more by their bosses therefore more burdened with extra work. There is no doubt about this fact that an employer always entrust all important jobs to his most efficient worker. Generally the first person that comes to the mind of an employer is always the one considered most efficient in the workplace.

It’s both good and bad for an efficient person, good in the sense that he always gets the benefit for his efficiency and bad because he never gets enough time for his personal work. It may sound little strange to readers of this topic but we Indians are considered the laziest of the lot on global level especially the government servants which lack in work culture seriously. And we are not alone in this but the Brazilians are as good us we in this particular field.

However, the working capacity is not an inherited quality but it can be developed but in most cases people tend to work lazily knowing fully that there progress depends on their performance. India is country where the normal working time is 9-10 hours 6 days a week for most workers. But most government workers have discovered ways to reduce their working hours by half or even lesser.

In central government offices of India, 5 days’ week was introduced with a condition that the working time for the day will be increased by one hour on weekdays to compensate for one extra off day.  But almost 90% government employees still follow their old routine of 10 to 5 instead of the new rule of 9 to 6 that was supposed to compensate an extra off.

And the worst part of the story is most of the employees do not arrive to their workplace until 11 or even later and windup at 4 or 4.30 and spend lot of extra time during lunch hours. They leave no chance to avail as many leaves as possible.

There was an interesting research that studied the working culture of an Indian government servant that revealed that a government servant works only 2 hours a day on an average. That clearly shows that the workload on efficient workers is always well beyond their maximum limit.

    • Then maybe the government of India should do something about those government employees who are like that.

Here in the Philippines, many years before government employees are really lax in their work. They have a one hour break from 12:00-1:00 but others would be going out from 11:00 and be back at 2:00.

Now, with the new president, everyone are mandated not to be late to work and they have a report of their work accomplishments. I think that's because some were incompentent ones were fired and their works were given to other employees, thus they all are busy already. Though, they were given increases in salary, so much so that the minimum wage in the government is so much higher than that in the private sector.

On top of that, there is a hotline where complaints about employees can be reported and investigated. If proven true, they can be dismissed from work.

    • I think government job in India are harder to acquire because there is a lot of competition. And one has to focus on what they can do what they can't make competition to do. As the competition continues to increase, it's harder to get the job we want. I think the burnout can be avoided if the person don't waste time in competing and focuses on money.
