Writing Poetry

Writing poetry is a form of writing that comes easy for me for I have been doing this form of writing since to be honest when I was in second grade when I first learned cursive handwriting.  Writing poetry does have it’s rules and those rules are meant as a guideline to follow.  Poetry is all about creativity and feeling in my eyes of a poet.

Poetry is a form of writing that is about feelings that deal with various issues from family to societal issues to just about anything.  I like writing poetry that describes what is going on around me, whether it is about family or work or just hanging out.  Poetry is a writing craft where one has to think as an artist for the words that we choose to put down on paper the reader must be able to see in their minds.

Poetry is technical with learning about personification, metaphors, similes.  Oh, there is also iambic pentameter.  There are a lot of vocabulary to learn but to me poetry is just to read and write pictures.  Poetry is a way to make people think and a way to learn subjects in a more fun way.  In writing poetry you can keep all the general rules in your brain, but remember that poetry is a creative writing activity and one that must be descriptive so that the reader will have a sense of what you are writing about at any given time.  Three words that describe writing poetry could be creative, emotions, work.   It is really all about using words to draw a picture.

Here is a sample of one of my poems.

Rainbows

      After a storm

      Colors form

       Red, yellow, green, blue, purple

Rainbows of one and at times two

if you are lucky to see.

       God’s paintbrush across the sky

it is there and watch it fade away

           like a dream of color.

This is a poem I just thought of while writing about the subject of poetry.  Poetry is the most creative form of writing that I know.

    • It is easy for you to write poem for you are used to writing it, but others couldn't do it for they don't have any background. Anyway for the sake of discussion for I have been writing a poem too when I was in my elementary grade. What I am writing is "binalaybay" which is a dialect language which also means poem. I have been exposed to people who are good in expressing their emotions, their feelings through flowery words or through words of flaterry. And later through a self-study, I have learned the basic of writing a simple poem.

      • Thank you for reading my article for this is the first of many. Writing poetry is a calling in my eyes. Writers can learn the technical side of this genre, but poetry is an art form all it's own. To me it is painting with words. I would like to read your poems when you are done.

    • I have several poems written in Verses Expressed. It is my blog on poetry. Some of my friends have contributed their fave poems which I feature them.

Verses Expressed contains my prolific thoughts and wisdom so as with my friends for inspirations expressed in verses since February 2012.

I hope you find Verses Expressed interesting.
