Last Saturday, three of my officemates and I attended our officemate’s marriage to a fellow executive assistant of mine.
Prior to that, I decided not to attend just like most of my officemates.
Why? Because the invitation has for the attire for males, as indicated in the picture, a tuxedo or coat and tie. While for the girls the picture of attire is in dress, gown and stilettos.
I am fine with stilettos because I always go to the office in it. Though, because I sometimes commute, I am always in pants and former blouses. In other words, I don’t have gowns nor a dress in my wardrobe. he he he
And the bride went to me a day before their wedding and pleaded that I attend their wedding because anyway the attire in the invitation is just a joke. I know they toned it down because she said only very few committed to attend since they have routed a manifest of who will be attending and only a very small number committed days before the wedding.
She was shocked and frustrated when they saw that there will only be a few attendees from their officemates and she doesn’t like that.
So, I told her okay I will attend provided that I can wear jeans and a formal blouse, to which she said YES!
As to the other officemates, she also pleaded with them to attend.
So, we attended. There were just 3 of us girls, one gay, two others were the secondary sponsors and the others were the 2 drivers, the groom’s staff from his section.
At the church, during the wedding rites, I saw that others are really in dresses and the boys are in coat and tie.
Looking around, I saw some of the bride’s former classmates in their jeans and blouses too. Maybe, they too were insisted by the bride to come even in their jeans and blouses and some men in their denims too, though with jackets to make the looks formal.
Funny, but most people would really consider the attire in attending a wedding.
As for me, it always is. I can be formal in my jeans and blouse, so why would they force me to wear a dress, which I don’t have in my wardrobe and not comfortable wearing since I don’t know to drive our car and hubby brings the car to his work, thus I would be commuting.

I think it is fine with me to attend such wedding.
There are some shops that you can avail rental of formal clothes.
It is once in a lifetime occasions.
If the venue of the wedding is too far, then I would not able to attend it.
I cannot afford to consume all the time by traveling instead of working.
Unless, if I was informed earlier before the wedding;
then I will be able to attend this special event.

Indeed, one can just rent those gowns, but here they cost 1500 per rental. I could have bought that for a gift. he he he
I am also a sociable person like you. In fact, I like attending parties. But it should be those semi-formal types and no dress or gown requirement please. ha ha ha
I agree with you that when it will require a long travel time, I would rather not go too.
I enjoy attending formal weddings and wearing formal clothing. I would never wear pants/jeans to a wedding. I think dressing up once in a while is fun and interesting. It's a good occasion to wear a dress and get all dressed up.
