Smoking is dangerous to one’s health. That is a very serious announcement to those who smoke cigarettes. But it doesn’t work 100%. You can see people all over the world smoking. Why couldn’t people stop smoking? This would be a very controversial question address to the smokers. In fact, there are a lot of groups that have organized for the smokers to help themselves quit smoking.
To control tobacco smoking especially in the school, the Department of Education has issued a Department Order No. 48, series of 2016, on “Policy and Guidelines on Comprehensive Tobacco Control”. This is to educate and inform everyone in the school on the bad effects of using tobacco use and the second-hand exposure to smoke, among others.
The DepEd wants for the effective implementation of a cohesive and comprehensive tobacco control program so that a healthy environment in and around schools and DepEd offices is realized. A DepEd memorandum to this effect has been issued that the month of June is observed as the No Smoking Month. Various activities which are related to the observance of No Smoking have been conducted.
In our school, we have a short video showing the harmful effects of smoking to the people who smoke cigarettes in their entire life like 20, 30, 40 years. And the dangerous elements that are present in the cigarette smoking which endangers life. All over the school premises, we have posted stickers, notices of No Smoking. Parents are also shown video while they are waiting for their children’s off classes.
When I Quit Smoking
When I was a kid particularly in my 10 years of age, I used to do an errand from my late father to buy his favorite local cigarette of “Parrot”. If it is not available, I bought “La Yebana”, another local cigarette. If he’s too busy, he requested me to lit it for him. Since I hadn’t smoked one, I lit it without putting my lips to the cigarette. I let burn its tip. Once it gets burned, I gave it to him and he complained why his cigarette almost consumed half. I didn’t say a word. He said that that the next time I do it, I have to sip its base to hasten the burning.
I did it with “La Yebana” and I felt good and the taste is sweet. I thought for myself I want to smoke a cigarette too, especially when I grow up. Sad to say, my father didn’t give any chance anymore to lit his cigarette and I never insisted on doing it for him.
The second chance I got expose to cigarette was in my second-year high school. I was with my classmates in an isolated place on the school campus. I was invited to join with them for an afternoon snack during our vacant period. They had brought finger foods to eat. I ate some. When they were full, the eldest among us took a cigarette from his pocket and lit it and passed it around for everyone to smoke. It was my turn. I inhaled once and my stomach misbehaved and I finally vomited. I couldn’t control it. I kept on vomiting until I profusely sweating.
They took the cigarette from me and finished it skipping me. When they’re through, we proceeded to our classes. After the class, I went home without telling my mother what had happened to me. From that time one at the age of 17, I never ever dared to smoke. Until now, I am already 64 years old. That is 47 years of no smoking.

I do believe that stopping from smoking is difficult. It takes a lot of courage and effort. The support system can be helpful. If a person wanted to stop smoking, the word "will" is the key to being successful in stopping. It has been an old issue on how to stop smoking. People are aware that it should stop the operation of tobacco manufacturers. Can we stop the companies? The answer is, we can't. I won't take the role of answering why it is not possible. We all knew the reason why.
Yes, it is a very lucrative business. If the manufacturing of tobacco would be abruptly stopped, the economy of the country would be greatly affected. Many people would be out of a job. Many mouths wouldn't be fed. The whole society and even the country would be economically drained of money. That is the practical sense of view if tobacco is stopped for growing and production of cigars and cigarettes.
But the people would be urged to refrain from using the cigarettes. Four years ago, the Department of Education had issued an order that every school should have to put up a notice declaring that the school is a free-smoking area. No one is allowed within the school premises and its adjacent place to smoke. It would be a bad example to the pupils whom they might be tempted to try smoking.
Lately, we had let our pupils see the educational video about the harmful effects of smoking which generally killing smokers.
Inspite of many advertise/billboards telling people to stop from smoking but many people never quit from smoking..Even they increase the price of cigarrettes but still they are not convince..I myself keep on giving advice friends telling them the poasible effects but still i could not convince them..So the smoker itself should decide when he will stop to smoke
To quit smoking is not impossible if those smokers wanted to. It is a matter of commitment, a matter of determination if they don't want to get sick. And also they should be supported by their family members. I don't think they couldn't do it.
Selling of cigarettes couldn't be banned. It is one of the major biggest contributions to the income and to the economy of the country. If it will be sanctioned by the government through the legislation, as I have said the economic status of the country would be greatly affected. Imagine the price of a pack or package of a cigarette has been raised according to you, but yet many are still buying them.
I would repeat it is a personal commitment. If they want to stop smoking, they could do it. If they don't want, then who else? Those smokers are already adult and they know what is wrong and what is right.
Believe it or not, I have never once even tried a cigarette. Smoking always seemed like such a vile habit to me that there was no appeal whatsoever. Even when many of my friends took up smoking, I never even wanted to try it. I guess I am one of those people who just has no predisposition at all for smoking.
Anti-smoking campaigns in North America have been carried out for 50 years or more. There have been films and messages from health authorities, laws restricting the places where people can smoke and banning minors from buying tobacco products. Every packet of cigarettes has an ugly photo on it with a message about the harm caused by smoking. And yet there are still many youth who start smoking.
I really don't understand the attraction, but it's pretty clear to me that the change has to come from society first. All the laws and awareness programs do little if children are seeing adults smoke, or if smoking is portrayed as cool on TV and movies. We didn't see a lot of people quitting here until after smoking had become less of a factor in popular culture.
I started smoiking when i was only 16,i was at school and my friends forced me to just go for that and i enjoyed alot the taste of cigrate on that time.I started smoking from there.i continuously smoke for may b 7,8 years.and finally i realized that how bad the smoking is because sign of damage done by smoke,If i wal litlle i get tired so early,i used to play different sports but because of smoke i felt that i am not as sharp as i used to be.than i decided to quit smoking in year 2014 i stopped smoking and from that day tell no i didnt even touch a cigrate and now i am fit and feeling so good.
Congratulations on your many years of non smoking that's a good achievement especially when you think of how early you started.smoking is harmful to our health that's the advertisement you will see if packs of cigarettes in our country, but more and more people are getting into it regardless of the harm that it causes in the body. Women are the ones in the front line nowadays when it comes to smoking and I feel so sorry for those women who smoke. If it can do so much harm to the man how much more would it cause in a woman. I often ask myself why do people smoke, and the answers I get are sometimes ridiculous. Like someone told me once, that it keeps your body warm, is that by inhailing that bad smoke into your lungs or is it by burning your lips that keeps you warm, I don't understand. Others say it relieves tension and stress, maybe that will work because I have seen in my work place when someone is stressed out with loads of work or is supposed to see the boss over a certain issue they will always go out and smoke then they gain some courage, and only then can they see the boss. Otherwise they become nervous wrecks and can't handle anything. It's very unfortunate that people find refuge in smoking, something that can kill you in hours. Despite th3 many announcements about smoking people ar3 still getting into it. I have never amoked in my life and my fiancee doesnt smoke either i thank God. After seeing my dad being admitted in hospital because hes lungs were so inflamed because of smoking i never wanted to hear or see any ofmy close friends or rekatives smoking it really broke my heart. But after his admission he was able to stop smoking. Unlike mt brother who was so hooked to smoking to the last day of his life may gis soul continue to R.I.P. cigarette smoking is bad and I always advocate for people to stop.
Smoking is a bad habit for everyone because it is dangerous to our health mentally , physically and spiritually. It leaves a bad effect on our memory.
Quitting smoking is easy but for this purpose your will power be very strong. My many friends have given up the habit of smoking on the ground of will power or the doctor said him not to smoke in future otherwise the second heart attack will come soon.
Nicotine is both a stimulant and a depressant. That means it increases the heart rate at first and makes people feel more alert. Then it causes depression and fatigue. The depression and fatigue — and the drug withdrawal from nicotine — make people crave another cigarette to perk up again. Some experts think the nicotine in tobacco is as addictive as cocaine or heroin.
It can be hard to get used to not holding something or not having a cigarette in your mouth. If you have this problem, stock up on carrot sticks, sugar-free gum, mints, toothpicks, or lollipops.
