These Volunteers Are Also Heroes In Their Own Way

While it is commendable the government personnel and officers doing their jobs effectively this time of the season, there are people who work hard and helping the people without salaries and wages to receive. These people are doing the job as part of their duty and their passion to help people and all they got as reward are the words “thank you” or sweet smiles are worth the effort.

Who are these people? These are non-governmental organizations or groups helping the community. These groups includes a Rider’s Group, Radio Group, Youth organization, reservists, brotherhood and many more who are really doing the volunteerism for the sake of the helping the people.

Most of these groups sat up a tent or hovels along the national road and hang some tarpaulin into and with the letterings Undas or Oplan Kaluluwa. They were there sitting for the whole day (some would really doing the duty for the whole night) waiting for someone who asked their help.

Help include giving direction to the commuters, giving water to the thirsty, doing some mechanic or vulcanizing work, pushing the overheating vehicles and many more. Simple help that really matter for the people.

Aside from them, there’s the barangay tanods who are giving their duty for the people. Sometimes they do the traffic implementation and when someone is in trouble, they are there to pacify or control the situation.

Of course, we cannot forget the duty of the government personnel like the policemen, fire officers, traffic enforcers, nurses and doctors, emergency response team. But as we have said, those volunteer have no salaries and wages in performing the duties.

In the name of heroism, these people just deserve the commendation for their priceless work. Recognizing them is just proper for their effort. Government may give them the certificate of commendation but as for us, our salute to our heroes volunteers of the season.
