VICES; A NOBODY BUT MESSY

Looking into a friend who is addicted to vices like smoking and drinking broke my heart. I felt sorry for her because she doesn’t know how to halt it. “it’s not as easy as taking a bath and all dirt in the body will go” she said to me the last time we chatted.

Throughout our college days, she is a “home-school-home girl” who do not know how to have a night party as other teenagers do. I remember those break time we had in school, which was incredibly silent because her notes are covering her face avoiding me to talk with her. All we can do is to have our school things in front of us without the so-called “chatting.” She is a good girl type during those times, which is now the opposite of it.

After knowing what happen to her, I came up with this poem entitled “Vices, a Nobody but Messy.” This will be a dedicated poem only for her and of course to those who are in love with vices.

Vices? Could that be good to you?

Could that give a nice disposition in your life?

No, no, no! Spare those for you don’t need them

Leave them and let them out from your system.

Cigarettes, liquors, and drugs

Who are they to imprison you?

Who are they to live in your body?

They’re not belong to you and will never be!

Stand up oh my ever-dearest friend

Wake up and see the worlds’ beauty

The beauty you didn’t see lately

For you are busy in the world of immorality

Today you must mend your way

It was not easy as can be

But slowly and surely, you can see

The changes in you will be on the way

Let your life be a good testimony

For youngsters are yearning for it today

Let them know how cruelty and messy

That dark world where you came they see.

    • So how come she is now into those smoking and drinking? I suppose she got herself group of friends who are into that?

That is what happens when we have friends who are into vices. We too will surely have those as our vices.

I am proud of myself that when I was in College, I also tried smoking. However, the taste and the bad breath it gives me, made me stop it.

During my early years at work, I also get to drink, but socially. Until now, I drink alcohol on social gatherings. But then, i choose what to drink.

One should just know how to control herself in these kinds of vices. Just knowing the bad effects it would give one's body, should already make one stop doing these vices.

    • YEAH, WHEN SHE BEGIN TO WORK AFTER COLLEGE, SHE LEARNT HOW TO GO OUT AT NIGHT WITH HER COLLEAGUES AS SHE TOLD ME. THE FOLLOWING DAYS, WEEKS, AND MONTHS, SHE SAID SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHY SHE COULDN'T SAY NO TO HER WORK MATES.
THEN FINALLY, WE MET ONE TIME AND THAT IS WHAT I OBSERVED TO HER. SHE SMOKES AND SHE ALSO AN ALCOHOL DRINKER. BUT SHE SAID SHE WANT TO STOP IT BUT SHE COULDN'T.
HOPEFULLY, SHE FIND WAYS TO FORGET THOSE VICES.
