The Email Desert; What’s Happening?

Years ago, there were dozens of free email sites.  They were all good.  They were all free.  If there were ads, I don’t know, for I never noticed.  I had about 7 accounts on 7 different sites.   It was great.

This one was serious.  It was work.    That one was for my friends, my real friends.   This other one was for the various writing sites.  That one was used when I wasn’t sure about the site….

on and on because it suits a person to appreciate that their on line persona, and the person who is taking a shower are different.

When we meet you respond to my appearance, my actions, my expressions, and get me in a setting.  Online, all that is gone.  You don’t know if I am old or young, tall or short, joking or serious.  Nor, do I know you.

Sure, you may say you are a 26 year old woman from Trinidad, but maybe you aren’t.   It is better that I keep my barriers up until we can have coffee and I can see that you are a 26 year old woman from Trinidad.

That, of course, was then.

Now, one has to hunt for a good email account.  For a good free email account.  For a good free email account which doesn’t let me post for six months then tell me how much money I have to pay to see my mail.

Today, everyone wants to rip you off.   It is like a line forms to the right.

I was on something called Opera Mail forever.  Then, suddenly I am alerted that ;

“now contacting you again to remind you that from 31st July, 2017 our ‘Guest’ level plans will be discontinued.”

That’s nice.

I jumped over to another site called mail.com.   That was up for a long time.  Now I’m advised that I will have to pay for use.

What is this?

Is it me?

Now I can’t see paying for an email account.  I can’t see having one account.  It is too dangerous.  It is too jumbled to mix work and life and play and possible scams.

So, I went on the hunt… found another site.

How long will that one last?
