Mackerels are not every one’s favourite and that includes me. But from the health point of view they are loaded with Omega 3 and hence eating them regularly is sound advice. Omega 3 helps reduce the bad cholesteroal and therefore eating mackerels is good for the heart.
Sardines also play a similar role and eating them regularly could be quite boring. There are interesting recipes that can make sardines also tasteful.
We cook mackerels in curries and also fry them after applying masala. To break the monotony I make steamed rolls
I have this recipe for mackerels that make mackerels a tasty proposition.
6 mackerels. ( One should check if they are fresh. To check freshness the fins should be red in colour and when they are opened to check the flap should fall back automatically.)
2 eggs
1 Tablespoon red chilli powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 chopped onion
2 green chillies
1 tomato
2 tablespoons oil
Banana leaf
chopped Coriander leaves
Clean and Boil Mackerels in water to which a little turmeric powder and salt is added. This helps reduce the fishy smell of mackerels.
Cool and remove flesh of mackerels
Heat oil and fry chopped onions till golden brown add chopped green chillies and chopped tomatoes. Cook till tomatoes are done. Add shredded mackerels, chilli powder and turmeric powder. Mix gently.Add chopped coriander leaves. Cool
Beat eggs and add to the ,mackerels mix only after checking that the mixture is fully cooled..The egg is added to firm up the rolls and if the mixture is hot then the egg will curdle. .
Cut banana leaves in 4 inch by 6 inches strips. Fill mackerel mix and shape the mixture to look like a cylinder large enough to conveniently fit into the leaf. Roll the leaf and tie the roll with a thread
Steam the rolls in a steamer.
These rolls can be eaten with tomato ketchup for added taste.

You are steaming them just by tying with a thread. Will they be crispy? I do not think so. They become very soft and may be not to preserve them for more than 6 hours.
Anything steamed is never crispy. Are idlis crispy?
It sounds tempting to try it. I had tried stew a mackerel before. It tastes like in seventh heaven. I can suggest this to my dear mother.
@Shavkat Bananas must be growing in your garden. The colour of the leaves turn light and that is the time the stuff will be ready.
i must say it sounds very delicious and healthy at the same time
It indeed is healthy. That turmeric and salt that is added while boiling the mackerels takes away its fishy smell.
