You just finished eating, There’s a spoonful of macaroni or potato or peas on your plate. What do you do?
The worst thing is to toss them into the garbage. The best thing is to save them. Save them to create another meal.
I collect my bits and pieces in what I call my little ‘stuffing’ container. I keep it in the freezer. Right now, inside of it, there is vegemince, some broccoli stems (cut up) two spoons of macaroni, a few spoons of mashed potato some cashews.
When I mix that with my spices and add vegecheese I have a stuffing for sweet peppers or tomatoes which is so delicious you will lick the plate. That is because the more varied the stuffing the more wonderful the end product.
I mention only tomato and sweet pepper, but there are other vegetables you can stuff. You can also use it as a filling in various bread kinds. You can spoon the stuffing into a pita bread or a taco, if you prefer. Any kind of flat bread is perfect. Spoon in the stuffing, add your seasonings, fold, bake and eat.
Some people use the stuffing in stews. They have a pot on the fire with various ingredients, add the left overs they’ve collected from a few meals in their stuffing container and have just created something one of a kind that is delicious.
Those little bits and pieces add flavor, add substance to a meal.
Further, you learn how to season things, and know your likes and dislikes. I like pepper. A lot of pepper. I like ginger. You might love barbecue sauce or tahini. Whatever it is, you add it and you’ve made a meal that pleases your palette.
Throwing away food is a sin. You don’t have to commit it.
