New Zealand won the 1st odi played in 1999 Bilateral series played in India

New Zealand toured India to play a 5 match One day International series. First match of the series was scheduled to play on Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground, Rajkot, India on 5th Nov, 1999.

Both teams were playing very good cricket at that time, so it will be very interesting to see them battle in a bilateral series.

New Zealand started very well and was at no loss of wicket till 100 runs and both openers putting century partnership. By capitalizing on good start, New Zealand managed to score 349 runs in 50 over’s at the loss of 9 wickets with N Astle top scoring with 120 runs in 12 4’s and 2 sixes with strike rate of 88 runs in 100 balls and T twose made contribution of 56 runs in 53 balls with 3 4’s and 1 six and strike rate of 102 runs in 100 balls..

India was required to made 350 runs in 50 over’s to win the match.

India Started well and with the contribution of Ajay jadeja who made 95 runs in 97 balls with 4 4’s and 1 six at the strike rate of 98 runs in 100 balls but they couldn’t managed to score the target and were lost by 43 runs short of the target score. This much total is always difficult to chase with 7 runs required in all over’s.

N Astle was the Man of the Match for his fine batting performance.
