Human habitation in outer space

Man is trying to find out a planet suitable for human habitation. That is good news for people who don’t mind settling away from their homes, I’m not one of them though. I have heard thousands of people offered their services to go settle there and not even willing to return, one-way trip perhaps. Mars is Number one in the list. Moon is not far behind.

Recently, I read a report that NASA announced it is planning a robotic mission to Jupiter’s watery moon Europa. Would you mind if I say I find it absurd so much money is spent on space exploration in the hope a planet suitable for human habitation will be found. My question is, why not spend the money making the deserts of Earth habitable? That will probably be little easier and practical.

Another question comes to my mind – Given a chance, anyone of us will be interested to go settle in a planet forever? Planets include Mars, Jupiter which the scientists feel are good for human habitation. However, that is going to be a one-way journey in my views.

I am sure NASA will take steps toward establishing a human presence beyond Earth in next couple of decades. I know I will not be in this world to witness that development but will that do any good to our coming generations. How many of people from Earth would be sent to live on Mars or Jupiter?

They feel that the capacity for people to learn, work, operate and live anywhere apart from Earth will take years to develop and if you add the fact that a journey to Mars will probably take few months if not years each way (I guess there won’t be any possibility of return though).

I don’t think living and working in space and the risks involved is not worth even if you forget the money spent on such useless missions. It is better to develop the unused land in our own planet.

    • Our mother earth is becoming crowded and pollution covered the entire corner of it. I guess it would be nice to have the second planet to settle in. But it will take years and the money involved is to high to attain.

    • If only we conserve our resources there is enough for not just one world but several worlds. The role of an individual is what matters.

    • I would not want to leave our beautiful earth, but I don't think we should stop others from exploring space or attempting to found extraterrestrial colonies. Many aspects of space exploration have practical applications here on earth. And if we should establish colonies on other planets, it might help to relieve some of the pressures on our environment while we work on repairing the damage to our environment.
