How to escape from running errands and wasting your time?

Running errands really time consuming, because  we have go out, spend time on traffics, find a car park and waiting to be served at the counter for either making payment, making enquiries, lodging a report.

We have to go out and spend  at least 2 hours for running the errands each time, and sometimes one good morning has been killed  or some appointment has to be cancelled or postponed due to delay of the of the services provided at the counter or a long Q.

How to avoid our beautiful life or morning be killed by those errands?  Here with some tips:

  1. Accumulate all the bills or issues together and go out for once. Go out once and settle all the errands one shot, spend your petrol one time, pay parking for once, and kill only one section of the day, rather than go out so many times and break your day into small pieces.

  1. Share your jobs with some good neighbour or community members. Ask around and assign particular jobs and share within some of them, take for example, someone help  and go for paying utility bills while another one help to go to bank for some else jobs.

  1. Pay most of the bills online. Try to settle all the things online, so you can do it anytime, anywhere, 24/7 and spend no cost at traffic or fuel. And, save time for no need to queue. You can do it when you are at home, in the office, or even where picnic at the beach, dinner with your loved.

  1. Hold less bank cards or account or memberships, so no need to do some many yearly membership renewal, as we all know, we might even forget to do some renewal due to holding to many membership in hands.

  1. Assign the errands task to someone. We can pay and assign someone to run some errands for us if have limited of time or the deadline is approaching. We used to ask the office boy to go out and renew road tax of our own vehicles when we worked in the office. We paid about USD3 for him, but still worthwhile because we no need to apply leave for going out to do it by ourselves.

Nowadays, we can do the renewal online as the agency has online renewal function and we pay for the courier service fee at half of the assignment fee as mentioned earlier.

Hope this helps us to have more favourable time for doing something we loved, like blogging, cooking, etc.

    • Division of labour is the fastest way of doing things but the problem with it is that those you assign part of your duties to are not able to accomplish the task the way you will have done or wish for hence you doing everything yourself. With techology all of that is changing as you can now pay all your bills online so the moverment is less.

    • This is where online transactions comes handy - bills payment.

At our office, we have an employee whose job is to go to banks for the deposits of the different affiliates. Since she also go to the bank where I pay my credit card, I send them through her, because she's accorded good service since our company is one of the valued clients.

And every Christmas I have a gift for her, for being so gracious in paying my credit card.

    • So true, we can do some many things online now and included to reduce the numbers of going out and stuck in the traffic jam.
Agree with @Raphael, that we can do more things now in one shot with the current technology level we embraced with. We can paying bill online, blogging at LiteracyBase while having our cloths washing in the washing machine, having our tea cooking in the kitchen and have the vacuum robot to cleaning the floor. Thanks to the innovation and technology!

I love @dina’s way which ask someone to help her to pay for the credit card bill too. We can ask for help around if the one is good and kind enough to give us a hand. Off course, we have to know how to return with kindness too. Thus, Dina has a Christmas gift for her every year, this one of the way.
And, we can bake some cakes, cookies and food for the neighbour whom help us for pay our bills too or run some errands for us, and help in saving our time.

    • I still do the old-fashioned way of having a checklist. It seems not effective to others but still, the most people do. I am not into gadgets in terms of having reminders. Even when I still work in my previous jobs, I always have a notebook to take note things and my action plan is always on a daily basis. At some point, I usually requested for a whiteboard and put the tasks for the whole week to monitor the things needed prior to the final deadline of the task.
