How is useful keratin for our skin and hair.

Keratin is naturally detected protein in the skin, hair and nails. Depending on the amino acid level, it may be a solid such as nails or soft such as skin. Whatever its texture, keratin plays a protective role. However, abundant hyped protein is useful not always, so it is very important to know how to choose keratin and how to use it. We have repeatedly seen the pictures in social networks when brittle and dry hair after keratin treatment turns into a shiny like the cover of a magazine. True, it is a temporary solution, as you can enjoy the result only up to six weeks.

Treatment with keratin primarily is for curly hair, and very harsh disobedient hair. If curls are damaged by painting or dry combing, keratin is by far the fastest solution to the problem. This procedure is not suitable for very thin and straight hair, so in order to strengthen them and to provide a healthy shine, use keratin-containing products.

Unfortunately, not all treatment by keratin procedures brings the desired result. It depends on the experience of the hairdresser, as the tools used in salons contain very strong chemical called formaldehyde. If it is used not correctly, hair are not restored, but on the contrary – damaged. Some experts said, the safest choice is keratin products without formaldehyde.

Not to mention the potential treatment of keratin minuses:

The feeling that the skin of head is not as clean as before the procedure;

In order for the result to survive longer, it is necessary to choose shampoos that contain no sodium chloride;

Procedure is not suitable for pregnant women, since formaldehyde can cause fetal harm.

The top layer of skin consists mainly of dead keratin cells. The new cells can grow only when removing the old, so scrubs are just necessary. Thanks to this protein the skin becomes more resistant to water, strong and supple. When you get older, keratin levels in the body decreases, and wrinkles begin to form.

Keratin for our skin can be very useful, but you need to know how to choose. In most anti-aging measures keratin is found in origin by animals – derived from hooves, horns and feathers. These parts are liquefied in very high temperatures and cause changes in their shapes. In such way keratin becomes completely useless for the skin, and you should avoid products containing it.

Meanwhile, New Zealand managed to extract keratin from sheep’s wool without hydrolysis. Such keratin has a positive effect on our skin, unfortunately, due to higher prices much less is used in cosmetics. Keratin, extracted in such way retains the original shape and is called biologically active or functional keratin. When you are choosing facial care products, look for these names in the labels.

As I mentioned earlier, keratin is the naturally occurring protein. The excess is called hyper keratosis, manifested by a coarse, thick and dry skin, rough and unruly hair. Excessive keratin levels in the body can lead to proteinuria. Then, the liver is forced to work harder, protracted process may lead to liver failure. Therefore, before use of keratin supplements, be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist.
