In the year 1900 an experiment started with Morse code which is a combination of alphabet or in other words code in which letters are represented by combinations of long and short light or sound signals. It was the only way in past years when telegrams were sent before the telephone became popular.

There is no doubt about the fact that the cyber world would be half as impressive if the images of emoji withdrawn from the text messages. The use of is like a silent revolution which has taken over the cyber world in a storm with a new secret language which in itself is sufficient for expressing your entire feelings.
We need a language for expressing our views and there is no better expression than images especially while you can create them easily by using a keyboard. As they say an image can express you better than what you can say in hundred words so when you use a simple emoticon it express you perfectly. A simple use of keyboard strokes and your message is delivered in a perfect way.
Social media has played its role in popularizing the role of emoji which has taken the world of emoticon to the general users. The world of technical language of emoticons has reduced the gap of language barriers as the meaning of symbols is same in any language.
You would be surprised to note that at present there are more than 1600 emoticons are in use and expending at a rapid rate. Almost every social media, text messages etc. use them for instance number of emoticons used on Twitter alone was over 10 billion. Billions of users on Facebook use a number of emoticons which should by far outnumber the use of emoticons on Twitter.
Emoji is combination of e+moji in which e stands for image and moji means manuscript or we can use expression in this case. It might sound strange but the experts say that emoticons have become more famous because we cannot understand the real meaning of written words or in other words emoticons express you better.
The language experts think that there will be a time when emoji will be a full-fledged language used on the social media sites with increasing number of images. For instance there are more than 17 symbols for smiling faces with different expressions. People use them at different places according to their mental state at the time they use them.

While Emoticons or Emojis were in existence before Twitter/facebook etc, it is these media, that have been making the use of these emoticons so popular.
