Online business needs to use  strategies for it to be known the world over and one of the strategies is:

Ad Swaps

Marketing online is here to stay but one needs a strong advertising base for anything to be marketed effectively. No matter how great a product is, unless one advertises no one will know that it exists. No amount of word of mouth publicity is going to make it known to the public. This applies  even to Blogs and email newsletters. One needs to have a huge data bank of email listings but an individual invariably cannot achieve this. That is where ad swapping helps.

Ad swapping is an online technique, fairly recent, where two entities advertise for each other on their respective websites. This is mostly between a marketer and a publisher. The marketer could be someone who would want his Blog, product or even just an email newsletter be known to as many viewers as possible and this happens effectively when they have an ad swap arrangement with a well – known publisher who has a great mailing list. The advertiser will automatically have access to this mailing list. Simply put, it is a give and take policy. It can also happen between two independent advertisers where there is a possibility of both benefiting from this activity, to promote their activity.

The advertiser would certainly look for a publisher who has a pretty good data bank of email listings and the advertiser will place the publisher’s add on his website as an ad swap arrangement.

There is no cost involved in this activity but a sure way to endorse each other. What needs to be looked at however is that the websites of either party do not contain matter that goes against Internet ethics or legal bindings. It is only after a thorough study that both parties can safely go about their business of endorsing each other.

There is yet another advantage in this method of advertising in that rather than blowing one’s own trumpet when a third party sings the praises the effect is greater and this is bound to increase one’s business in leaps and bounds. Publishers are no doubt selective and therefore the one who seeks this arrangement with some of these publishers who only look for quality should make a note of this.

There is no time frame but one needs to periodically check if the content of the website has changed in any way that would be detrimental to their business.

There are online agencies that help do the ‘match making’ and these agencies do charge a fee for this activity. It is good to go through these agencies as they have experience and know where a marketer would get the best results by placing their ads and vice versa.

The advertiser should have an effective ad and this is important as no matter how popular a publisher could be if the ad does not attract viewers then one cannot blame the publisher on whose website the ad appears, for poor performance.

The ads could be in the form of banners, email newsletter, or simply an ad that has text and images.

    • It's interesting to know about those advertising methods. I am horrible at marketing, never done it before, and if I need one day to advertise something, I would probably pay to someone to do it for me. For every job, there are people who know how to do it the proper way.
