Do You Eat Cassava Leaves? If Not, This is Now The Right Time

Cassava is anywhere in Asia, India, Africa and other tropical countries. What we usually hear is the root production of cassava which could be processed as flour good for hot cakes and baked cakes. By the way, the other term of cassava leaves is yucca leaves. Maybe these leaves contain eucalyptus, LOL. Frankly, I never had tasted these cassava leaves in my life and even in my whole family members. I am so surprised to know that cassava leaves are so nutritious. There are also some beneficial effects to the human body once eat them in a way you like them to cook. I think these yucca leaves could be cooked with spices of our taste and preference. I have not met recipe how to cook the yucca leaves. Maybe you explore now your mind where to find yucca leaves. Do not forget yucca leaves and cassava leaves are the same; you may wonder why naming this stuff alternatively.
Further, I have also learned that cassava roots could also be eaten by humans because cassava is a root crop. Its root crop has two colors such as yellow and white. The yellow one is sweeter and the white one sugarless and it is the white that I eat , very yummy. If cassava roots are nutritious, the more their leaves are. Since I have not tasted yucca leaves, I cannot share you how they taste. Maybe they taste like any vegetable we buy in the market. By the way, cassava is a life savior to those starving people for they can replace their usual food with cooked cassava roots. The cassava roots are bigger than the sweet potatoes. They vary in benefits though. In Asian countries where cassava is abundant, hunger will be supplemented with cooked cassava roots, but there is an advice not to cook this root crop if already exposed under the heat of the sun, for they become toxic and poisonous, please avoid cooking and eating them. Both cassava leaves and roots are poisonous, so they must be cooked in 15 minutes. Their toxic acids disappear when they are cooked and the water contained must be thrown away far.

Why aspire to eat cassava leaves? The reason is they contain high in protein m lysine, leucine, valine and yucca leaves are so rich in arginine and this cannot be found in any other vegetables. The yucca leaves also contain calories but when they are cooked the calories are reduced, thus making you slimmer. Those having extra weight, always cook yucca or cassava leaves. By the way, it is advisable that when you cook the yucca leaves, you need to add spices and meat for these yucca leaves are tasteless. Cassava leaves also contain great amount of fiber. We all know about the function of fiber that is to facilitate during the call of the comfort zone or rest room. Foods that are rich in fiber helps must be what we should buy to be cancer free. Yuca leaves are cancer cells fighter though their leaves.

Cassava leaves also contain vitamins like vitamin C , minerals, that are also found in other foods. Yuca leaves have effective dosage of Vitamin C for the skin, lungs, and Vitamin A for the eyes for the leaves contain good source of beta carotene the powerful anti-oxidants that prevent and fight cancer.

By the way, warning to those who have thyroid goiter, it is not advisable for you to eat cassava leaves, cassava roots or leaves for these help your goiter grow fast.

    • If you haven't tasted yuca leaves, why not try if you are from a tropical county? These leaves could be good supplement from other vegetables you believe so expensive. I think there are cassava plantations and I doubt if people the harvesters know about the benefits of cassava leaves. i have not eaten these leave, I may try, but there is problem, I cannot find them here in the city where I leave. They are mostly planted in Bukidnon and other parts in in the Philippines.

    • Love cassava chips. Have never eaten cassava leaves but would be happy to try them. I have come to realize that there are many leaves that people in other countries eat that I could have been enjoying too. I just didn't know they were edible. You just added cassava leaves to my list of edible leaves.

    • I love cassava roots, it has low glycemic index though it too, have so much carbohydrates. But I have not tasted the leaves. Will try sometime.

    • Cooked cassava is nice if cook them fresh for if cook dried already, it becomes toxic. Those dried are good for cassava flour and others. The young leaves called the cassava tops are most edible and great source for Vitamin K.Vitamin K is a protector for a deadly cancer.
