I may have just the one! Having three toddlers, having playdoh is an essential. We have tried many DIY ideas and each one failed; whether it being too “slimy” or too crumbly that you couldn’t work with it! This recipe is just a bit different, though it has the perfect playdoh texture and consistency, leaving it a lot less messy!
-1 cup flour
-1/2 cup salt
-1 cup water
– 2 tbsp oil (we found that canola or veggie oil works best)
-2 tsp Cream of Tarter
– 3 or 4 drops of food – Your choice, you can even mix colors!
– Optional : Glitter (it isn’t messy like you would think, it stays in the dough)
Now comes the fun part! In a medium sized sauce pan, add all of the above ingredients and “cook” on medium heat. Cook maybe 5-8 minutes until the dough has formed fully and feels like normal Playdoh would. Turn the heat off and let it cool enough to knead the dough with your hands. Once it’s fully cooled, its ready to be used!
You can store the playdoh in any air tight container or even a Ziploc bag. If the container isn’t air tight it will dry out pretty quickly, usually a couple days max. If its stored properly, it lasts months! Our latest batch was made almost 3 months ago and its still very soft. Though, I will be making more since my monsters have mixed the colors together.

I love PlayDoh. I think I like it more than my kids did! :)
Great idea. I was imagining the various colourful shapes that one could produce and yet deal with something that is safe to use, specially for kids.
My mum used to make homemade glue for me when I was young.
She never knew how to make playdough.
Then, I once tried to make plastercine, also known as playdough for my daughter 20 years ago, different recipe and it turned out allright but doesn't last long.
