Breakfast Time: Flahavan’s Real Fruit Sunrise Review

Cooked oats or porridge is a regular breakfast staple in our home. I just can’t be bothered to prepare food for breakfast not to mention that my husband is also in a hurry to get out for work. So not unless it is a public holiday or weekend, oatmeal is our almost daily breakfast (it take turns with cereals!). Since we are eating it almost daily, it is important to me that it suits our taste buds, too. After all, it is the first meal we are eating for the day not to mention that it is the first food we will see after waking up (literally). So despite the rush in the morning, it HAS to taste good.

Well, eating oatmeal (or porridge) by itself doesn’t sound so appetizing. In fact, I don’t think I have met anybody personally who will say honestly that they love eating it on its own – if not for the health benefits it brings! I am after healthy eating and try to practice it as much as I can but I do play around these healthy foods a bit so that it becomes more appetizing!

So in our household, we buy Flahavan’s Real Fruit Sunrise mixed fruit porridge. It is actually a reasonably-priced fruit mixed porridge pack and I find that it is made with good-quality ingredients. Each pack contains mixed dried fruit like sultanas, cranberries, raisins, and papaya to sweeten it a bit. Unlike other readymade cereal or oat mixes, I find that Flahavan’s contain a lot of these dried fruit pieces so you won’t feel cheated thinking if you bought the plain option. Each dried fruit pieces are sweetened just right, although it can get too sweet if you end up with a lot on a single mouthful!

We cook our porridge with milk and it is really easy to get to your desired oatmeal consistency. 2 minutes is all it takes to cook and soften the oats when using our microwave on 900 w! Just make sure you’ve added in more than enough milk as cooking it in the microwave can evaporate the liquid. But in any case, if you feel that your bowl ended up drier than expected, all you have to do is to pour in more milk immediately after cooking and stir well! Apart from that, there is no need to add any sweetener such as honey or sugar. The dried fruit pieces are more than enough to do this for you!

Overall, I am impressed that Flahavan’s have a lot of dried fruit pieces in each pack of mixed fruit flavored porridge. We have been using this brand for a long time and I think I am sticking with it! In fact, I also mix it with the plain oatmeal brand as I find it “too sweet” because of the generous portion of the dried fruit mix. So that’s another way to enjoy this tasty breakfast option and making it a lot more cost-effective, too!
