ANTIOXIDANTS MAKES A GOOD DIFFERENCE TO OUR BODY AS WE AGE

Many people use a different kind of beauty products just to get that youthful look or to let their skin and body stay young. Some opt for a more natural way of maintaining that healthful glow. Everyone wants to grow old gracefully.

To maintain the desired skin glow, one must look into the type of food they are eating as well as the ingredient and the nutrients they contain.

An antioxidant is known to be one of the food nutrients needed by our body. It is being used in hand cream products, supplement pills, and other medicines. We even read about antioxidants on magazines or on medical journals.

What are antioxidants? What can they do to our body?

Antioxidants are a substance that can fight the aging process that is happening to our body. It neutralizes harmful compounds or prevents free radical that can damage the living cells of our body. Once the antioxidants and free radicals are combined and neutralized, it will no longer do any damage.

The result of antioxidants can be visible and invisible. The development or growth of disease to our body like arthritis, cancer, neurological deficiencies, and diabetes may begin, as we get older. We can also get some problem on our skin like thinner wrinkles. Cigarette smokes, UV rays from the sun, and radiations are outside source of free radicals that enters our body. There is a greater damage inside and outside our body when we encounter more free radicals.

Accordingly, the scientist doesn’t have any idea if there should be an exact dose of antioxidant a person can take daily. However, they reassure that eating foods that are rich in antioxidants will make a good difference in our body.

What are the antioxidant’s dietary sources?

  • VITAMIN E. As an antioxidant, it will protect the heart from diseases and it will strengthen our immune system. Great source of vitamin E includes sunflower seeds and wheat germ oil.
  • Vitamin C. It is also called as ascorbic acid. It will prevent cancers from the pancreas, throat, mouth, and stomach. It will also prevent cataract and oxidation of LDL cholesterol. Vitamin C lowers the risk of heart diseases. Oranges, broccoli, strawberries, and Brussels sprouts are an example of foods that are high in Vitamin C.
  • Beta- carotene. It is an antioxidant that is present in dark-green, leafy vegetables, and orange-colored fruits and any other vegetables. It is proven that beta-carotene reduces the risk of stroke. It also absorbs free radicals that harm the cell membranes.
  • Lycopene
  • Lutein

Where can we find antioxidants?

Well, we can found it on the foods we ingest. A variety of foods contains antioxidants like fruits and vegetables. We also found it in cold water fish, nuts, red meat, sea foods, and legumes.

Antioxidants are also used by food factories in food preservations and processing. It also serves as product additives. Some of the foods that are preserved with antioxidant additives include oil, cheese, and bread.

Eating varied of vegetables and fruits will increase the amount of antioxidants needed by our body that reduces the incidence of diseases. Fruits and vegetables are highly recommended to eat it in a natural way instead of juicing it because juices contain lots of sugar that are not needed by our body.

    • ANTIOXIDANTS ARE AVAILABLE IN MANY KINDS OF VEGETABLES AND FRUITS. IT IS ALSO PRESENT IN SOME TEA LIKE GREEN TEA. ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO EAT FOODS WITH ANTIOXIDANT DAILY TO ELIMINATE TOXINS IN OUR BODY. WITHOUT IT, OUR BODY COULD BE WEAK AND UNHEALTHY.

      • And in addition, when we eat those fruits and veggies filled with fibers as well as those other foods, we should see to it that we drink a glassful of water or else will be constipated.

    • These antioxidant will not only strengthen our immune system, but would delay signs of aging.

      And my favorite anti-oxidants are fruits. I see to it that I eat two or more fruits a day. But of course, veggies too though I like fruits more.

      I think with juicing, the fiber content will be lessened though, so I prefer to eat them as they are. Besides, I like eating them because they are delicious and chewing also exercises my jaw.

      • I, MYSELF PREFER EATING FRUITS AS IS THAN JUICING THEM BECAUSE I CAN TASTE THE NATURAL SWEETNESS OF THE FRUIT. AND ALSO, AS YOU HAVE SAID, IT IS GOOD EXERCISE TO OUR JAW.

        • Yes me too, I prefer to eat the fruits than juicing them. I can savor how good they taste and they exercise my jaw when eating them.

          Like the apple, eating even its peel has more value because it's in the peel where the anti-cancer nutrients are.

          Besides, eating the fruits instead of juicing them can save you on electric bill. he he he

    • Carrots are good for your eyes sight that's what I heard from people that is all about health and carrots are very delicious I like carrots they are my favorite vegetables to eat.

      • PROBABLY CARROTS ARE VERY GOOD FOR OUR EYE SIGHTS BECAUSE OF THE BETA-CAROTENE THAT IS PRESENT WITH IT.
        IT IS ONE OF OUR MAIN PRODUCTS HERE IN OUR PLACE, SO I CONSIDERED IT AS PART OF MY LIST OF FAVORITED ROOT CROPS.

    • Ageing is an inevitable process which no one can stop. Anti oxidants can help us to delay the process and keep it in control.
      Adapting them in life is really good and an effort towards healthy lifestyle.

      • I AGREE WITH IT. WE CANNOT STOP THE AGING PROCESS THAT IS HAPPENING IN OUR BODY, ONLY WE CAN CONTROL IT.

    • Carrots are the most important veggie to me because it helps with eye vision , my children absolutely love carrots !! They're delicious and you can do so much with carrots when it comes to cooking , beef stew , salads , boil them and have them as side dishes or just plain them with or without ranch . theyre the best !

      • ONE OF THE COMMON DISH THAT WE COOK HERE IN THE PHILIPPINES THAT USES CARROTS IS THE "CHICKEN AFRITADA", WHICH IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE. WE ALSO BAKE CARROT CAKE.
        CARROTS ARE REALLY OF MANY USE AND ARE DELICIOUS.

    • those vegetables mentioned above can also beautify our skin, carrots can brighten up our complexion, it can also treat acnes and tomatoes are best in whitening as well, vegetables that are rich in vitamin C and we consumed them not only it can make us healthy it can also gives us a glowing skin, a youthful skin. thanks for sharing this!

    • Our body naturally produces anti oxidants but they said that these are not enough so we really need to supplement it by eating foods that are rich in antioxidants. Aside from fruits and vegetables, legumes like peanuts and beans are also antioxidant - rich foods.

    • super, antioxidants are the best to your body, they help improve and prevent, stop numerous harmful and and boost your immunity, which really do as wonders. tomato and ginger do wonders for health, and now with this rain and change fast in the weather, ou do need it, thanks for awesome post and tips , its really good to open your laptop and go to literacybase and see all this good thoughts at morning, I think i need go shopping to buy the things with good antioxidants to cook today in this good day and enjoy it with family and friends and everyones.

      • you are right, tomato is the best and I like but in juice form, they are so tasty without or with salts, just add little spoon to one cup of tomato juice and drink it, it is the best drink every for you health and if you have lots of tomat dont knwo what to with do that. you are going to like it, when kids I didnt like it but now, I like it more than ever. Tomato is not healthy only as juice but also as face mask, you know that face and anti wrinkles system needs antioxdents that is in tomato, so you can make tomato face mask or serup by adding the tomato thick juice on your face, it will not hide the wrinkles that already there, bu ti w will help in reducing its appear and also make the new one take long time to show up on the skin, for best usage , do that mask ten times a week, you can use also the packed tomato sauce or tomato paste that is for food or so, it will save you time but the natrual one you do at home is the best of course
