Achy Muscle: Efficascent oil review

Ever since I got pregnant, I experienced various aches and pains around my body. Especially when I reached the third trimester of my pregnancy, I noticed that my lower back becomes stiff and I needed to massage the area to ease the pain. Even after giving birth to my son, there are days when I experience excruciating pain around my back or suffer from bouts of stiff necks. Well, it is probably because I haven’t been practicing yoga for a while now and my muscle became weak as a result.

Since I have yet to find the time and the “drive” to start working out again, my next best option to treat muscle aches and pains is to use pain relief ointment. I am using Deep Heat cream to massage the painful spots but there are times when it is not enough to bring me any relief. So for extra painful aches and pains, I resort to Efficascent oil.

Efficascent oil review

I think I stumbled upon an article when the regular usage of this type of oil is not really good for the skin because of its active ingredients. However, it is truly effective to ease pain easily, especially if I don’t want to drink medication for it. I usually apply only about 2-3 drops of the oil and gently massage around the painful area. I also try to “stretch” the part where it aches as I massage it and I love the menthol going through my skin. I can almost feel instant relief especially if I apply the oil immediately after a bath!

The menthol scent is something I don’t mind since I stay indoors anyway. However, if going out, the person beside you might catch a whiff of the pain reliever ointment because it is quite strong. Apart from that, it is also not advisable to apply this if wearing nice clothing. The green oil-based ointment will definitely stick to your clothes! Personally, I haven’t experienced having to deal with oil-based clothes stain so I am not sure whether Vanish or any stain-removal product can easily remove this!

While it is able to provide me with quick relief, the results don’t last too long. So I have to make sure to apply it every 2-3 hours and massage the area whenever I do. It helps “relax the muscles” and also to help spread out the product to avoid staining my clothes.

I usually prefer this ointment creams but I find it is difficult to buy it from here. I still don’t have a few bottles left from our last trip back to our home country and hoping I will never run out (or experience pain again!).

Overall, I am pleased with this product but use it with caution to avoid burning my skin. I also try not to put too much since I don’t want to deal with green stain marks on my clothes after that momentary feeling of relief brought upon by this oil.

    • That looks a lot like the liniment my mother had when I was a little girl. It was very strong, and the smell was really unpleasant - not the nice menthol you get these days. It burned when she put it on - a lot! I like to use a counter-irritant method like a menthol rub sometimes for muscle pain, but I'm sure glad the products today are less nasty!

      • Hmm, that's probably camphor. My grandmother use another oil-based pain relief ointment and the smell is really strong and nasty - haven't used it personally so not sure if that stings. But this one is quite pleasant (well, at least to me) so I never have issues using it. But I just make sure to apply just a few drops so to avoid staining my clothes. So I am not sure if I apply a lot, if that will sting my skin, too.

        • @cessy08 No, I don't think it was camphor. The smell was much darker and heavier. I find camphor to be quite pleasant, and much lighter or brighter - if such can be said of a smell. Yes, she did really slather it on! I think that's partly why it burned, but the ingredients were also strong.

    • It is the local liniment in our country. I had never used this solution in my body parts. I guess I haven't had serious ailments to use this. Some people claimed that it is effective to ease any body pains. If I have such intolerable pain, I usually used my electronic gadgets. I had been using transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator (TENS) for about 20 minutes. After which, pain is temporarily gone. You can try to use this modern gadget.

      • Oh, have heard about the TENS machine but haven't tried using it. Where did you buy it from? I was supposed to try it when I was in labour but all the hospital's TENS machine were in use so I never got to try it for myself. I have mixed feelings about it since some say it doesn't help them with their pain at all. So not sure if it is worth for me to buy one.

        • I have mine because I am a Physiotherapist. It is the basic gadget that I needed when working int he hospitak. It is worth to have one.

          • Oh that's why! That's so convenient for you then. Do you recommend a specific brand or model for the TENS machine? Just in case I end up really seriously thinking of buying one for myself.

    • There are many of that in Philippines, but what my sister buys and stocks at home are the Super scent and Omega pain killer. I tried her omega pain killer, it really kills as if I was burn hehehehe.I no longer applied it.

      • My Mom used Omega as well but I don't like the smell - it's too overbearing for me! I haven't seen Omega around the pharmacies over here as well so not sure if they have it.

    • isn't this similar to winter green ointment?
It is camphor substance and green too, minty and strong odor but it really worked on strained muscles, cramps, backaches and aching bones

      • Hmm, I haven't heard of the winter green ointment. Maybe if you can post a photo (or a review), I'll know if I've seen it before? Yeah, I only try to avoid using this because it might stain my clothes and since reading of the article saying it could burn your skin. But when my muscle pain is really bad, this is the most effective relief for me!

      • @peachpurple I love ointments that have oil of wintergreen in them! I know some people don't like the smell, but it reminds me of the bubblegum when I was little. I find it very pleasant.

@cessy08 Oil of wintergreen has a sort of minty smell, but more spicy. It's almost as if there were some cinnamon or something in with the mint. Methyl salicylate is listed on your bottle, and that's oil of wintergreen.

    • @cessy08, there are many omega here and I believe also there. There is a new rub sold here, very effective. I tried it when I felt some aches. The name is Super Rub. Do you know if you have it there in your pharmacy.
