Discussing a “routine” case

It had been 2 hours since Shyam had completed his coffee and had gone through certain briefings, newspaper reports, army confidential and some not so confidential analysis and reports on an incident of a probable terror attack on a brigade transit camp near the place he was sitting in.

Col. Zakir interrupted him and asked
‘Shyam, so what do you make out of this all?’
‘Sir, apparently a terrorist managed to sneak through the defences with some insider information given by a civilian, probably some vendor, shopkeeper, or cleaner, and then he escapes with a few photographs and some maps.’
‘A pretty “routine” case then.’

Shyam gave a smile and said ‘Yes as routine as the Captain Satish case in Kochi Cantt., or the 3 missing porters case in Shimla. Those were pretty “routine” too.
Its a routine and that’s why you asked me, sitting in a place near Hyderabad and get a late night flight to quickly reach here.
Sir, I have worked with you and interacted with you enough to know how you work, and what is real and what is unreal when you say.
I know that “officially” this case is made out to be a routine case of a single terror operative getting inside a brigade transit camp and getting away with a few maps, and perhaps some ammunition.
Yet there is much more beneath the surface.
Also, I know very well that Dock 200-B is a Grade A Plus Master Store, and its real purpose is known to a very few.
Perhaps you can shed some light on what kind of document(s) were stored in this store, and what is the probable cause of concern in the present case?’

Mission Storm Harrison files

Col. Zakir poured some more coffee in two cups.
‘It will take some time to elaborate on this story. But I believe that the coffee will surely help.’
It was already around 3 o’clock and Col. Zakir started the narrative…

‘Around May 2015, we got a critical input from the South-Eastern command saying that Atacaq island in Andaman and Nicobar Island chain and some of its surrounding islands were under the eye of Scuba-Z intelligence team and they are planning to establish a permanent base of spies here, which can even help them capture these islands in some way for direct attacks against our naval bases and air bases close to the coasts in Eastern and Southern states.
We needed to plan something quickly to nuetralize the enemy plans.
So we planned Mission “Storm Harrison”.
We created a team with Captain Vir Goel, Air Flyman Girish and Col. Kaushal Singh from the Eastern command of the Army backed up by paratroopers of ParaDivision IV A based in Madurai to penetrate and destroy a suspected enemy settlement in Atacaq islands.
The team managed to destroy the settlement and also managed to bring in some good pictures, without any loss, and most of the enemy operatives from that place dead.
The mission was a big success.
However, 3 months down the line, Col. Kaushal Singh died in an apparent car accident, where the person whose car hit Kaushal’s car also died.
2 months after that, Air Flyman Girish had a narrow escape while flying a plane in a routine exercise, although he had a minor injury.
There were some investigations into this, which revealed some disturbing patterns.
At this time, the files were located in an Army regional office in Puducherry, but we decided to shift those to Dock 200-B.
Only a few people knew of the overall plan, and one among them was Captain Ranbir of XVII Brigade in an information byepass procedure and his senior Major Dheeraj and two more officials under my command here, who I know will not compromise under any alluring money or under any dire threat(s).
Yet in this particular night attack, the attacker did not take anything but managed to take out a photocopy of section B of that investigation.
Luckily, he could not locate section A because of probably lack of timing, or probably he overlooked it in hurry.’

‘So that means Shyam, we are up against a very devilish situation and will need our maximum capabilities.
Go to your resting place here, have some sleep and let us meet again at 10 o’ clock to carry things forward.’

Shyam was eagerly looking forward to around 5 hours of rest, after which he knew he would have endless, restless days ahead.
