Giving is a good thing. But to know where, what is given goes, is also a good thing.
Knowing what goes on when money is doled out specially to those NGOs that have people who do not feel guilty about keeping the money to themselves, led me to have my own Trust and therefore have complete control of what happens to the money that I give out.
I never give money per se but take care of the needs of the individuals directly.
The objective of my Trust is towards education, environment, animals, health, and needs in general.
We have people approaching us directly. We have given out money for further education based on proof. Then there will be requests for medical treatment and here again. We expect a letter from the hospital where the patient is being treated.
Someone whose house was damaged due to heavy rains approached us. We received an estimate of the expenses involved from reliable sources based on which we gave the money. We later expect them to send us bills of what they have spent on.
There is so much of corruption in the area of charity. Even aid received from government does not reach the grass root level, l eaving the poor helpless and those who handle the money fill up their coffers.
Having said that all NGOs cannot be said to be dishonest. We have a set up that takes care of the welfare of animals. I have helped them with their spaying programme thus controlling dog population which otherwise would only be filling the streets. There is ample proof of their work.
When it comes to helping schools and such institutions there is never an end to their needs and a note is made of this by supplying items that they urgently need rather than handing over cash.
If money meant for charity goes in wrong hands there cannot be a worse devastating situation than that.

I agree with you.
Sometimes we donate to the charity which aren't belonged to the right oragnization at all.
Hence, we are duped by them.
Who knows what happened to the money that we had donated.
There are several cases in Singapore and Malaysia that these so called charity events were not real.
The money didn't go to the poor people but the rich men pockets.
Hence, it is better for us to check out the truth before making donations
I never give cash to anyone without knowing what theydo with that money. My Trust needs supporting documents to justify it.
In my opinion, we need to see the total view of the project before giving some amount of money, especially to NGOs. The project should be sustainable and not be a dole out the situation. Actually, this is the downside of some NGOs. They don't know how to maximize the donated money.
@shavkat It is not difficult to get the details when one doles out and follows up whether the money donated has been put to good use. Not all NGOs are honest. There have been cases where orphanages are misused and even human trafficking has been reported.
