Grocery shopping is an enjoyable feeling once you start pushing
the shopping cart into the shopping mall.
You feel like you “owned” the whole supermarket, getting ready to buy everything off the shelves!
However, grocery shopping can be a very tiring chore if you do not
plan out your schedule and follow the list that you had prepared.
Walking through the same lanes back and forth numerous of times
will make you feel stressed out, panicked and out of breath.
The worst scenario is when the lanes are blocked by other
customers chatting in the middle of the lane , obviously, you
cannot pass through the lane unless they back off.
Many times, popular lanes such as snacks, biscuits and instant
noodles are packed with customers with their idle shopping carts
stranded in the middle of the lane too.
The best way before you start your grocery shopping is to get
organized at home.
l Before you leave your house, check the refrigerator what are the
ingredients that you needed for the whole week meals.
l Choose the recipes you planned to cook.
l Prepare a list of the ingredients that are out of stock.
l Check for regular used ingredients that are running short
( vegetables, meats, eggs)
l Check for dry ingredients such as flour, dry seasonings, instant
noodles and beverages ( MILO, coffee, tea, milk powder )
l Plan out breakfast ideas.
l Fill up quick to eat food that your kids and teens would nibble such
as biscuits, breads, dried fruits, assorted nuts and jams
l Check for important items such as pastas, rice and cooking oil which
are essential ingredients for main course meal.
l Cut out fliers coupons, arrange them according to dates
l Put the coupons and vouchers into your wallet or handbag , in case
you might visit the supermarket anytime without planning.
You can save money with them.
l Register yourself with stores that offer rebates, discounts and month
ly “Member Day” where members are entitled with 10% discounts or
redeem vouchers upon a minimum amount of shopping spree.
l If you have a member card, use the accumulated points to redeem
vouchers, coupons which can help you to save money.
l Many shoppers have a bad habit during grocery shopping, we don’t
follow the shopping list.
l Hence, we always ended up putting in more unwanted items into
the shopping cart, spending more money .
l Shop for important items which are shortage or out of stock,
absolutely required, cannot do without them.
( rice, cooking oil ,onion, garlic, potatoes, vegetables, fruits )
l Some items which can be “delayed” because they are not
compulsory items, leave them aside but don’t cross them out yet.
l Put those items under “discount” list where you can buy when
there are offers.
l There are many supermarket in the country.
Choose the RIGHT supermarket for the cheapest items they could offer
.
l For example ; JUSCO offers cheapest fresh eggs, fresh vegetables,
fresh meats and chickens.
TESCO offers the cheapest rice, cooking oil, seafood (fish, shrimps),
potato, carrots, cabbage, fruits, toilet paper rolls, washing liquid,
laundry washing powder and breads.
l You do not have to BUY everything under one supermarket.
Categorize them, buy only the cheapest items each market could offer
.
l You are able to save more money.
Give your member card to the cashier in order to collect points before
he/she scans the items.
l Before you queue up at the cashier lane, REMEMBER to check your
items in the shopping cart at the Price Checker which are located at
several pillars of the supermarket.
l Never trust the price tag on the items.
l It is important to check the price per unit, price before and after
discount.
l You can always request the cashier to check on the item price first
before scanning it.
l Always jot down the offer price in your small booklet.
The next time when you do your grocery shopping, compare with the
previous price, then decide whether to buy them or not.
l I always make it a habit to check the expiry dates on fresh food,
packaged food and dry food items before making my purchase.
Always choose the longest expiry date; choose the longest month or
year.
l Take note that “going to expire date” items are placed at the front
row while the longest expiry dates are placed behind where you could
hardly reach. Don’t be fool by their strategy.
l If you planned to buy “near expiry date” dry items, seasonings,
make sure the packaging are sealed tightly.
You are likely to save 50% to 70% off the normal price.

Congrats peach for having your articles posted here.I submitted two the other day , only one was approved and the other one is awaiting for a moderation. About your blog here, it is very helpful especially those always sent on an errand to shop in the wet market.
What a great tips for having a grocery. I like being organized and this is useful tools not to neglect anything when having my groceries. As for me, I usually have a checklist after having a quick inventory of food in the four corner of the kitchen.
