Tillakaratne “Dilscoop” Dilshan announces retirement from International cricket

One of the most famous batsmen of Sri Lankan cricket team in recent years- Tillakaratne Dilshan who invented one of the most famous shots in last 10 years and used it to a great effect in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty 20s has announced that he will retire from One Day Internationals and T-20s after the current Sri Lanka-Australia series.

With an average of 39+ in ODIs and almost 29 in T 20s he has been a vital person in the Sri Lankan batting order for years.

Statistics wise some of his vital achievements are as follows:

1)He scored 10,000+ plus runs in ODIs at 39+ average and strike rate of 86+; and is the fourth Lankan batsman after Jayasuriya, Sangakkara and Jayawardene to score 10,000+ runs in ODIs for Sri Lanka.

2)He is the second best Twenty 20 run scorer- 1884 runs in 78 matches with average nearly 29, and a strike rate of 120.69.

3)During years – 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2015 – he was in terrific form in ODIs when he scored 1,000 runs +.

His best was the last year – 2015 when he made 1207 runs in 25 matches at an average of more than 50 per innings.

4)After Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Jacques Kallis and Sanath Jayasuriya, he has been the only all rounder to reach 10,000 runs and 100 wickets (called as the double of 10,000 and 100) in ODIs- a great feat indeed.

5)Top scorer for Sri Lanka in the last 2015-16 Twenty 20 World cup.

Statistics reveal him to be a great batsman and a pretty successful bowler. Yet he was a great fielder, and led Sri Lanka to some good success as captain too.

Moreover, whenever he is at crease in whatever match- T 20 or ODI he is playing, the opposition camp would always be under high stress as he had the ability to turnaround any match.

I am sure that Sri Lankan cricket lovers will sorely miss him during the international matches.

And last but not the least he was no pushover in Tests also, where he made 5492 runs in 87 tests and took 39 wickets too.

Perhaps he will be a future coach for Sri Lanka or some other team and can guide the players too in coming times.

      • Yes @gautamdotcom often achievements of Sangakkara and Jayawardene got highlighted more but I think Dilshan was more attacking than the other two.
