The Rather Distasteful Super Villian

The Movie, the ‘Silence of the Lambs” became notorious because of the villain; Hannibal Lecter.   Yes, now, if you view that movie, you do find ‘Hannibal the Cannibal’  ridiculous.  You almost embarrassedly hide a smirk when you see him, for the writers/producers need to make Lecter beyond repulsive is so great, it moves into spoof.

Many motion pictures and television dramas have been seduced by the over evil villain.  It is that ‘over kill’ which moves a drama into a fantasy.

Scandal would have been viewable if ‘Command’ had been toned down.  For those who never wasted their eye sight on this turkey;

Scandal began as an affair between the President of the United States,  Fitzgerald Grant, and a D.C. attorney, Olivia Pope who had participated in his election campaign.

It was highly rated, seemed close to reality, but they took a leap into insanity with the introduction of Eli Pope, (Olivia’s father) as ‘Command’.

A mythical ‘security’ force of blood thirsty psychopaths run by ‘Command’ which manipulates every aspect of American life.   The hammy performance of the actor who plays this role, the over done ridiculousness of each episode,  turned the show from what it was into rubbish of such extent it is watched more as a laxative then entertainment.

For some reason, ‘Command’ wasn’t sickening enough, so another set of even more powerful and repulsive villains was introduced.

Why?

As bad as Scandal became, one didn’t expect other programmes to go for the overkill when creating the ‘enemy’.

NCIS decided to introduce a character in Season Nine which drips into Season Ten who is capable of penetrating every form of security, and able to slip through all forms of surveillance and murder and bomb at will where and whenever he pleases.

Nah.

This overdone evil incarnate had been discarded many years ago, for making the villain human is more realistic.  It gets more attention from the public, makes the show more ‘real’.   Moving to the Hannibal Lecter turns a program that could be taken seriously into a cartoon.
