South Africa beats England Out of CWC 1999

In the 13th match of the ICC cricket world cup, England was against the South Africa team. This game was played on kenning ton Oval, London, England on 22nd May, 1999. West Indies hold the upper hand in this game.

England won the toss and opts to bowl, this means South Africa will bat first and will set a target for England to chase later.

And South Africa team and 11 were looking like: Mark Boucher (wk), Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Shaun Pollock, Hansie Cronje (c), Allan Donald, Jonty Rhodes, Daryll Cullinan, Gary Kirsten, Lance Klusener, Steve Elworthy

South Africa started very handsomely and was no loss of wickets till 100 runs, Both Garry Kirsten and H Gibbs posted a century opening partnership. H Gibbs was the top scorer with 60 runs in 94 balls and with 6 4’s and 1 six at the strike rate of 64 runs in 100 balls and Garry Kirsten also made 45 runs in 62 balls with 3 4’s at the strike rate of 73 runs in 50 balls. Late order sensation L Klusener also batted very well and made 48 runs in 40 balls with 3 4’s and 1 six at the strike rate of 120 runs in 100 balls. South Africa posts the total of 225 runs in 50 over’s at the loss of 7 wickets.

England was required to get 226 runs in allotted 50 over’s.

England started very badly and lost their first 5 wickets only on the team score of 45 runs in 17.5 over’s.

England keep losing their wickets and were bowled out for only 103 runs in 41 over’s and only Graeme hick and N fair brether top scored with 21 runs each.

South Africa won the match by 122 runs and lance Klusener was the Man of the match for his all round performance.
