Song 14 in my song of the day series is Feel by Robbie Williams. This is a very modern song to make it onto my list, it was written and released in 2002. It was written by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers and I think it really shows off Robbie’s song writing skills which aren’t so obvious in some of his other releases.
It was a huge chart success and hit the top of the charts in Argentina, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Poland, and the Netherlands. It also reached number 2 in Norway, number 3 in Sweden, Germany, and Austria, 4 in Brazil, Denmark, Ireland, The UK and Switzerland.
It was certified Silver in the UK, and Gold in Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland and Germany.
The Lyrics are poignant and cover the subject of love and being too scared to truly commit even though you know it is what you really want deep down. It also touches on mental health and depression in the lines ‘I’m not keen on living either’. The song really shows a torn man’s feelings. I
Here are the Lyrics:
Come and hold my hand
I wanna contact the living
Not sure I understand
This role I’ve been given
I sit and talk to God
And he just laughs at my plans
My head speaks a language
I don’t understand
I just wanna feel
Real love feel the home that I live in
Cos I got too much life
Running through my veins
Going to waste
I don’t wanna die
But I ain’t keen on living either
Before I fall in love
I’m preparing to leave her
Scare myself to death
That’s why I keep on running
Before I’ve arrived
I can see myself coming
I just wanna feel
Real love feel the home that I live in
Cos I got too much life
Running through my veins
Going to waste
And I need to feel
Real love and the love ever after
I can not get enough
I just wanna feel
Real love feel the home that I live in
I got too much love
Running through my veins
To go to waste
I just wanna feel
Real love and the love ever after
There’s a hole in my soul
You can see it in my face
It’s a real big place
Come and hold my hand
I wanna contact the living
Not sure I understand
This role I’ve been given
Not sure I understand
Not sure I understand
Not sure I understand
Not sure I understand
What do you think of this song, and of Robbie Williams. Do you prefer him as a solo artist or when he was in Take That? He was my sister’s favourite member of Take That when we were growing up but I was all for Mark Owen. Now I think I would have to side with my sister he has definitely aged better, and his solo stuff is much better than the few songs Marc released on his own.
