Scandal; moving into realms of Worse

I wrote a piece on the current season of Scandal, assuming it could not become worse.  For those who never watched the show, it began with a woman who was having an affair with the President, the married President, of the United States.

Her name was Olivia Pope, (played by Kerry Washington) and his name was Fitzgerald Grant,  (played by Tony Goldwyn).

It was alright in the first season, then began tumbling down the worm hole.

Scandal wobbled in and out of fantasy; not the kind of fantasy which is pleasant and enjoyable, but the kind of stupid nonsense that gets that one swallow from a puke on your face.

Inventing secret organisations of such great power and over the top characters which were really comical because of the idiotic dialog and over acting.

It was a show one didn’t want to watch if they could find anything else.

By Season 5 one assumed the creator, of Scandal, Shonda Rimes expected Hilary Clinton to win, and  Melly Grant, (the ex-wife of President Grant) would become President.

Rimes had dispensed with her Trump-like character months before, assuming the public would see what a buffoon he was, and move on to a Latino candidate.

She got it wrong.

Really wrong.

For despite Trump being more ridiculous than her character, he won.  He won and I doubt there was a more stunned person in America than Shonda Rimes.

Unable to get her head around this insanity of a character like Trump becoming President, she tumbled into the 6th season completely off balance.

The show became a mush of repeating past episodes, in flash backs, moving off into side stories. Unlike usual shows which stay close to the calendar, so that there will be Christmas episodes just before the 25th of December,  Scandal is locked into November 2016.

Although it is 2017 as I write, Scandal is stuck in 2016.   Grant is the outgoing President,  with no one taking the Oath of Office.  This is because the Latino candidate who beat Melly Grant was murdered by no less than the ever repulsive Rowan when he was making his acceptance speech.

Rowan is the father of Olivia,  a thoroughly nauseating character.  He was the embodiment of evil who has been out eviled by some new organisation.   This new batch is the one which provoked Rowan to murder the Democratic winner of the Election, and frame Cyrus Beene, who as the Vice Presidential Candidate would become President.

As idiotic as this all is, a dive into complete fantasy has Olivia Pope having one of those ‘alternative future’ moments.  The entire episode is made up of nonsense.

There’s a mind trip back in time where Olivia objects to rigging the election.  This means Fitz doesn’t get elected. He doesn’t get elected, he leaves Melly and marries Olivia.

Melly marries Cyrus and runs for the Presidential nomination.   Olivia’s father helps her by smearing the other candidate.

Quinn doesn’t become one of Olivia’s ‘Gladiators’ but some kind of whacked out celebrity.

At the end of the show Olivia speaks to Fitz…

what this is about is another shoulder shrug.

This program has been renewed for another year.  It is so ridiculous that one watches it more as a comedy than a drama, expecting more over the top idiocy than anything resembling drama.
