Who says that faith is only a matter of fulfilling one soul’s needs? Is it proper to hold a faith as a service to man?
A Bible dictionary explains faith as the attitude, whereby a man abandons all reliance in his efforts to obtain salvation, be they need of piety, of ethical goodness or of anything else. Faith is said to be the attitude of complete trust with God, of reliance in Him alone for all that salvation means.
Faith came from the Greek word “PISTIS”, meaning a firm persuasion and conviction that is based upon hearing. Anthony Pezzota, an Italian citizen, and the author of the “THE TRUTH ENCOUNTER”, briefly defines faith as trusting and believing.
According to the Bible in Hebrew 11:1, “now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we cannot see.” However, the whole chapter of Hebrew 11 records the list of the ancient heroes of faith like Noah, Moses, and Abraham.
In the book of Romans 10:17, It is said that faith is coming from what God reveals, faith is hearing the message, faith is the Word of God.
To understand the further meaning of faith, let us look back to the story of Noah (Genesis 6:1 -8:22). The Holy Spirit of God warned Noah about things that do not yet happen. By his faith, he condemned the world and became the heir of righteousness. God told Noah to build an ark for He will put an end to all people who do not have faith in Him through a great flood. Noah did all the things God had told him. Noah being a righteous man found favor in God’s eyes. He and his family were saved. Therefore, we now see that Noah’s action shows his faith. Noah hears the word of God without hesitations believes on it and put trust in the word of God and put it into action.
I was once a loner, a student of a state university who sees life as a routine that only ends with death. All these things change when I and my classmate attends a Bible sharing in our campus during break time. We attended many times, hear lots of the word of God, until such time that my faith in Him blooms.
